Excavation Site: mist, errant titan constructs and a place frozen in time

Above Whelgar’s Excavation in the Wetlands, a strange mist and flashes of light lead to a place seemingly frozen in time. What Blizzard’s preview says about this 24 to 29 dungeon, and why its level band is worth checking.

Something has woken in the hills of the Wetlands. Blizzard’s dungeon preview of 20 October lists Excavation Site for levels 24 to 29, near Thelgen Rock and Dun Algaz, above Whelgar’s Excavation.

The premise

A strange mist is drifting down from the mountains above Whelgar’s dig, and there are flashes of light along the horizon. Beyond the excavation lies a place that seems frozen in time. Errant titan constructs and dangerous wildlife guard it, and the Explorers’ League is bound to take an interest.

That is all the preview offers, and it is deliberately spare. “Errant” suggests constructs that are no longer doing what they were built for, and a place “frozen in time” invites plenty of guesses. The preview confirms neither the cause of the mist nor what the light is.

Where it fits in a leveling plan

At 24 to 29, Excavation Site sits in a part of the game with several dungeons close together. Its upper end overlaps the City of Dalaran at 28 to 33. A group near level 28 could reasonably choose either, depending on where its members are questing.

The Wetlands location also matters. The zone links the dwarven lands to the south with the routes north, and Dun Algaz is the pass at its southern edge. The preview gives no faction access note for this dungeon, unlike the two capital-city dungeons, so plan the travel according to where your group is, not on an assumption of easy access.

A level band that moved

Excavation Site was one of the dungeons tested during the beta. When it appeared in the 1 October build, the development notes listed it for levels 26 to 31. The 20 October preview gives 24 to 29. The 20 October figure is the later one, so plan around 24 to 29.
