City of Dalaran: where each faction’s attunement begins

In the original game, Dalaran sat sealed under a violet dome in the Alterac Mountains. In Forever, the barrier has fallen. Blizzard’s dungeon preview of 20 October lists City of Dalaran for levels 28 to 33.

Arcane chaos

The magical barrier that concealed Dalaran’s restoration has come down and revealed a city in disorder. Enchantments are backfiring, constructs are running wild, and dangerous magical energy is spilling through the streets.

Your group enters through the sewers, after earning the Kirin Tor’s trust, and works its way into the city proper. Along the way you choose among multiple paths and encounters before reaching the source of the disruption. The preview does not say how many paths there are, or whether every one leads to the same final encounter.

Where each faction starts

Dalaran is the one new dungeon whose preview names an attunement. Both factions have a required questline, and both start in Hillsbrad Foothills.

  • Alliance: “An Alarming Request”, from Emissary Jacques in Southshore.
  • Horde: “Key to the City” and “Prison Break-In”, from Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill.

Those are the starting points. The preview does not list the rest of either chain, how long it takes or which steps need a group. Treat it as a door to find, not a checklist to follow.

Getting in is not the same as visiting

For the Horde, the instanced dungeon and the open-world city are separate questions. Blizzard’s 16 October notes made the open-world city hostile to Horde players while leaving dungeon access unaffected. Our explainer covers what that change means.

Dalaran overlaps with the Wetlands’ Excavation Site at the lower end of its range, and starts a run of new dungeons through the 30s and 40s.
