Dreambound Pinnacle: a readable place name that points to an encrypted map record

Area record 17845, Dreambound Pinnacle, is readable, but the map record 2981 and parent area record 16597 it points to are encrypted. It is the only one of 1,375 readable area records with such a reference, and only the child area’s name was recovered.

Dreambound Pinnacle is a place name anyone can read in the Forever client. The map record it points to is encrypted.

In the installed wowf 1.60.1.70630 client that Campfire examined on 27 October 2026, area record 17845 is named Dreambound Pinnacle. An area record names a place and says where it sits: which map it is on, and which larger area contains it. For this one, both answers lead into encrypted data. Its map, 2981, and its parent area, 16597, are listed in encrypted sections of their tables, under the same key identifier. We can see that those two records exist and what their ID numbers are. The rest of each record stays closed.

One of 1,375

The client has 1,375 readable area records, and Dreambound Pinnacle is the only one whose map or parent-area reference lands on an encrypted record.

That is different from a record that simply points nowhere. Half-Pint Tavern, another readable area, refers to map 3002, which is missing from the client’s map table altogether. Map 2981 is not missing. Its row is one of eight in the map table that the client lists in encrypted sections, so the row’s existence is visible even though its contents aren’t. That is a fact about a database record. It doesn’t tell us whether the map’s terrain or world files are present, encrypted or readable.

What the name is, and isn’t

Dreambound Pinnacle is the name recovered from the child area: one named place inside something larger. The names of map 2981 and area 16597 weren’t recovered, so we don’t know what either is called, including whether either shares the child’s name. The records don’t say what kind of map 2981 is, whether a zone, a dungeon, a raid or something else, what it looks like, or how anyone would reach it. A name with “Dream” in it invites guesses about where it leads. The record doesn’t support any of them.

That leaves a precise question for anyone who maps the client: what are parent area 16597 and map 2981 called? For now, the only readable name in the chain belongs to the smallest place in it.
