Night Watchman’s Torch: the three beta fixes in Blizzard’s October notes

The Night Watchman’s Torch appears three times in Blizzard’s Forever beta development notes, and each entry is a fix. Together they are the written record of how the item changed during the beta.

1 October: lag, and no way to cancel it

The 1 October notes fixed an issue where the torch caused unintended lag in certain situations and could not be cancelled. Our reading is that its effect is meant to be something you can end yourself.

8 October: whose light shows

In the 8 October notes, the torch stopped showing a visible aura on the players it illuminates; only the torch bearer shows it now. That wording also tells you the torch lights up other players, not just the one carrying it. The change is listed in the notes’ Quests section, but the notes do not link the torch to a named quest.

15 October: Horde characters

The notes posted on 15 October, Pacific time, fixed an issue with various Horde characters holding the torch. They do not describe what had gone wrong.

What the notes leave out

The three entries do not say where the torch comes from, who can get it, what it requires or whether it will be in the game at launch. These are fixes reported in beta builds. We have not tested the torch, and the launch client may differ, so treat this as a change log, not a collection guide.
