Your Stormstrike debuff now belongs to you

Other players and pets can no longer consume an Enhancement Shaman’s Stormstrike debuff, a missed spell no longer wastes it, and its cost now scales with base mana instead of a flat 125.

Two Enhancement Shamans in the same group used to be able to trip over each other’s Stormstrike. Blizzard’s 16 October development notes fix that and change how it is paid for.

The fixes

  • It belongs to the Shaman who applied it. Other players and pets can no longer consume your Stormstrike debuff. Before the fix, they could.
  • A failed spell does not waste it. The debuff is no longer consumed if your spell does not land.

Together, these mean the debuff waits for your own spell that actually hits. Another Shaman’s spell, a Mage’s spell or a pet’s attack will not use it up.

What the notes leave out

They do not say how many charges the debuff has, which schools of damage it boosts or by how much. Those details should come from the tooltip in the launch client, not from memories of other versions of Stormstrike.

The cost now scales

Stormstrike’s cost changes to 8% of base mana. It had cost a flat 125 mana at every point in the game. A cost tied to base mana keeps pace with your level instead of staying fixed.
