Who Forever is built for: the four pillars Blizzard says guide every addition
Blizzard’s 12 September recap names four design pillars and spells out what follows from them, from no flying or level scaling to optional visual settings. Which parts are rules, which are choices and which are still plans.

The clearest written answer to who Forever is for is a list of rules, not a list of players. Blizzard’s What’s Next panel recap, published on 12 September, names four core pillars and says each new addition has to answer to the original game’s spirit.
The four pillars
- Approachable and familiar.
- The world as the main character.
- The journey before the destination.
- Protecting and nurturing the social side of Azeroth.
What Blizzard says follows from them
The recap turns those pillars into concrete rules:
- Leveling matters as much as endgame.
- Rewards come from playing: leveling, dungeons, making friends, exploring and taking on challenges together.
- No flying mounts and no level scaling.
- Challenge and teamwork stay central, with preparation and communication part of both.
- Convenience is weighed carefully. Blizzard says each quality-of-life change can alter how players meet and gather.
If you want a world you cross on the ground, where zones do not scale to your level, those two points are written into Blizzard’s own description.
Systems built around 1–60
The recap pairs the pillars with systems for the leveling journey. Legacy progression is aimed at players who enjoy leveling and alts. Camping lets players craft campfires in the open world, where other players can stop, contribute through their professions and share campsite buffs. The recap also lists more than a thousand new quests across levels 1 to 60.
Choices you make yourself
Some features are presented as player choices: opt-in Transmog, modern and Classic visual presets, HD and SD character models, restored Classic animations for HD models, and official gamepad support.
On timing, one later post matters. Blizzard’s 7 October visual update says SD Skyborne player characters, including SD Druid forms, are in development for early 2027. So read the September list as a set of options, not as a promise that every option covers every race from launch day.
Not a mode or a season
The recap rules out three labels for Forever: a mode, a season and a new version of Classic. Its roadmap lists more raids, dungeons, PvP updates, world content, quests throughout the level 1–60 journey, Hardcore and a revamped iconic raid. Apart from the first raids on 9 December, these come without dates. The roadmap places new quests inside levels 1 to 60. This article does not read that as a promise about the level cap in every future update.
Is it for you?
Measured against what Blizzard has written, Forever suits you if you want leveling to count as much as endgame, travel to stay on the ground and rewards to come from play. It also suits you if you want modern visuals, Classic visuals or a controller as choices you can make yourself. Those are the parts on the page. Who actually plays it will only become clear after 4 November.
