Two Forever films appeared on the official World of Warcraft YouTube channel on 24 and 25 October. Going by their titles and descriptions, both advertise programming set in the real world rather than in the game: a travel episode and an escape-room challenge. Neither description announces a change to the game itself. We haven’t watched either film, so what follows covers what the listings say and how much time each one asks of you, not everything the films contain.
Forever Journey, episode 1: Norway
- Uploaded: 24 October
- Running time: 23 minutes 30 seconds
- Featuring: Guzu, Snupy and Stian Blipp, according to the title
- Link: Forever Journey EP.1 | Norway
The description presents the series as the three guests taking World of Warcraft off the screen and out to real places, and sets the mood with engines and battle cries in the fjords. The title numbers this as the first episode.
Escape Together
- Uploaded: 25 October
- Running time: 54 minutes 13 seconds
- Link: WoW: Forever presents Escape Together
According to the description, a group of creators are put through tests of wits, strength and teamwork before they attempt the Scarlet Monastery, which the description identifies as an escape room modelled on the dungeon. It closes by asking viewers to guess which faction comes out on top.
So the Scarlet Monastery in this film is, by the description’s account, an escape room based on the dungeon, not the dungeon in game. The description does not name the creators taking part.
Planning your watch
Together the two films come to about 1 hour 18 minutes. The Norway episode fits into a half-hour break. Escape Together is closer to a full hour, so it suits an evening when you can watch it in one sitting.
What this piece is based on
We worked from each film’s title, description, upload date and running time on the official channel. We have not watched either in full, so we are not describing scenes, naming the escape-room teams, saying which faction won, judging either film, or saying what else either one includes.
