Rolling Horde again, without him: two players on going back for friends they lost
In a Reddit thread about the 2004 launch, one player said their best friend from launch day has died and that they will roll Horde again anyway, under no illusions. Another replied with a plan to raise an ale on 4 November.

ImpossibleReason7555 asked a simple question on r/wowforever on 30 October: was anyone around for the 2004 launch, and what server did you start on? It drew hundreds of replies, many of them old server names. One of them carried something else.
"I am that old. 45 now," Norwegian_Calis wrote. "Played with my best friend from vanilla launch day on horde. He's died since then." They plan to roll Horde again on 4 November, and they're clear about what that will and won't be: "I am under no illusions of re-creating the time with my friend but it will be a nice nostalgic time." They couldn't remember the server, only that it was a PvP realm in Europe. "Sorry. Been a while."
Forty minutes later the person who started the thread wrote back. "I've lost a friend I played at launch with as well. We'll pour an ale back and salute them when we get in on the 4th. Gl brother."
It comes to a few lines. Another reply offered condolences and spoke of "many memories in those places with friends now gone". Nobody organized a memorial, and neither of them claims the game will give them anything back. What stands out is the line Norwegian_Calis draws. Going back to the same faction isn't the same as re-creating the time with that friend, and they're going anyway.
