Rare recipes and scarce materials as a reason for world PvP: what Forever’s 15 October podcast said

A guest on Blizzard’s PvP episode wished for scarce, place-bound resources to fight over, and the reply forecast organic competition once players reach 60 and start finding hidden recipes. A forecast, not a farming guide.

On Blizzard’s official PvP episode of The WoW: Forever Podcast, published on 15 October, a guest was asked what they hoped to see from world PvP in Forever. The answer was personal: their own favorite world PvP moments have been fights over something scarce.

A wishlist built on scarcity

The guest pointed to contested world bosses, and to farming a particular leather in Un’Goro Crater in Classic, as times when players were funneled into one area to fight over something valuable. Their wish, offered explicitly as a wishlist, was for more resources or items that are relatively scarce and come from a particular area or creature. That kind of thing, in their view, could give players a reason to form up and fight without a currency, an arbitrary system or an external ladder.

The reply: wait until players reach 60

The reply agreed. It said people were only seeing the game through a level-30 lens in the beta. Once players can level to 60 and enough of them are killing every kind of creature, it expected someone to come across a recipe they have never seen before, or a rare material that drops from one creature in one part of one zone. It compared the reaction it expected to the old Crusader enchant, and said it thought new recipes would bring a lot of organic competition.

Some of those recipes, the reply said, were hidden from the game client at that point. It mentioned players in the beta tournament asking where certain engineering recipes, a bomb recipe among them, came from, and said they would not be told. It also described making sure rare things feel rare, with very low drop chances and a lot of farming behind them.

What to take from it

This exchange named no new recipe, material or source, and gave no drop rates. The competition it describes is a forecast from 15 October, not something observed at launch. If it plays out as described, a rare drop with a single known source could become something players contest on the PvP ruleset. Whether any particular find is worth fighting over is for players to discover.

This account paraphrases the 15 October recording. It is not a transcript, and it does not describe the live game.
