Will Forever’s world bosses be instanced? The 15 October podcast answer committed to neither

Blizzard’s PvP episode weighed Season of Discovery’s instanced world bosses, which let more people take part, against the contested open-world fights that were lost, and committed to neither direction on 15 October.

On Blizzard’s official PvP episode of The WoW: Forever Podcast, published on 15 October, the conversation turned to world bosses, and the answer committed to neither instancing them nor leaving them in the open world.

The trade-off as described

The respondent recalled that Season of Discovery instanced its world bosses, and said that was good in one respect: more people got to interact with them. Their memory of earlier versions was that on most realms in 2006, a couple of guilds really killed the world bosses, and even in 2019 it was a handful of guilds fighting over them. The people in those guilds had a great time; everyone else, in this account, not so much. These are recollections, not counts.

The answer also said it was recognized at the time that something had been lost. Open-world bosses supported a kind of resource-control mini-game, which the respondent saw as the best part of it.

No commitment either way

The answer said it was not saying world bosses will be instanced, and not saying they won’t. It is something to be considered carefully, along with what else could be built to encourage that same kind of resource-control play.

Just before, the same exchange agreed with a guest’s wish for large, scarce objectives in the outdoor world that drop very good items. It said the aim is to work out how to implement that in a way that makes sense, and will keep exploring it.

For guilds planning ahead

This answer did not name a boss, a reward, a spawn timer or a release window, and it did not say how Forever will handle world bosses. If your guild’s plans depend on that, wait for a later announcement. The answer leaves open both the instancing question and what other systems might surround it.

This account paraphrases the 15 October recording. It is not a transcript, and it does not describe the live game.
