At a glance

Camping is a new Forever system. Cooking provides the campfire; professions provide objects that other nearby players can use. You do not need the object's profession or a party invitation just to benefit from a campsite.

Blizzard's official overview confirms a Basic Campfire with three object slots, one contribution per player, a shared one-hour object cooldown, class-buff categories that do not stack with their equivalents, and advanced blueprints from specific dungeon bosses. Object names and thresholds below use a public beta guide and current item tooltips. This is public-source research, not our own game test; beta requirements can change.

Camping does not take another primary profession slot. You learn Cooking and the professions whose objects you intend to make. A player with only one object can still make a useful solo camp, but a larger fire does not let that player ignore the one-object contribution rule.

Your first camp in order

The public beta guide reports The Great Outdoors from around level 4. Reported starting-zone quest givers are Sam Sarsaparilla in Elwynn, Eric Brighthammer in Dun Morogh, Lyreena Duskblade in Teldrassil, Brakk in Durotar, Kaga Wildhoof in Mulgore, Eleanor Shackleton in Tirisfal and Raan Wildwind on Zephras Isle. Check the local quest marker and current level requirement before travelling.

  1. Complete the local introduction and learn Cooking in the next town. Basic Campfire Kit is the starting Cooking recipe.
  2. Buy 1 Simple Wood per Basic Campfire Kit and a Flint and Tinder tool. The wood is consumed by the craft; Flint and Tinder is reusable. The finished kit is consumed when you place a campfire.
  3. Reach skill 20 in the profession whose first camp object you want, finish its introduction such as Camping 101 if offered, and learn the object from the appropriate NPC or trainer.
  4. Craft the fire kit and object before leaving town. Finished kits can be placed without carrying the wood or Flint and Tinder again. Check the item's actual placement requirements and cooldown.
  5. Choose safe ground, place the fire, then contribute your object nearby. Leave spare space for other players rather than expecting one character to fill every slot.
  6. Sit or craft within the campsite area for one minute, as the current campfire tooltip specifies, and confirm the benefit appears. The public guide reports one-hour buffs; check the actual buff duration before leaving.

A campsite is not a sanctuary. Enemies, environmental hazards and PvP can still make the location unsafe. Clear or avoid the danger before sitting down.

Starter object materials

Current recipe tooltips give these base costs per crafting action. Each first-tier object requires its profession at 20; learn its recipe through the appropriate introduction or trainer. These costs exclude bonus output and do not assume Legacy's Reagent Economy removes the inputs.

ProfessionStarter objectMaterials per craft
AlchemyMana Well1 Peacebloom, 1 Empty Vial
BlacksmithingSharpening Wheel1 Rough Stone, 1 Copper Bar
EnchantingEnchanted Lute1 Simple Wood, 1 Strange Dust
EngineeringReagent Bot1 Handful of Copper Bolts, 1 Copper Tube
HerbalismIncense Candle1 Peacebloom, 1 Silverleaf
LeatherworkingCamp Tent5 Light Leather
MiningLodestone1 Rough Stone, 1 Copper Bar
SkinningCamp Chair3 Light Leather, 2 Simple Wood
TailoringFaction Banner1 Bolt of Linen Cloth, 1 Coarse Thread
First AidFirst Aid Kit3 Linen Bandages, 1 Refreshing Spring Water
FishingFish Bowl1 Raw Brilliant Smallfish, 1 Empty Vial

For example, one Basic fire craft plus one Chair craft consumes 3 Simple Wood and 3 Light Leather, with Flint and Tinder kept as a tool. The Banner's bolt represents 2 raw Linen Cloth. Choose your faction's Banner recipe: Alliance and Horde versions have the same materials but support their own faction. Carrying several object types gives you a choice of contribution; the one-object-per-player rule and shared cooldown still apply.

Campfire capacity and skill gates

BasicCooking 1Starting Cooking access3
JourneymanCooking 90Cooking 1405
ExpertCooking 200Cooking 22010

The recipe-learning skill and finished-kit use skill are separate checks. Current kit tooltips confirm Cooking 140 for Journeyman and 220 for Expert, even though the public guide lists lower blueprint-learning gates. Each fire kit has a five-minute placement cooldown. That is separate from the shared one-hour cooldown on profession objects. Learn the blueprint and meet the finished kit's use requirement before buying an upgrade.

The first objects are learned at profession skill 20 after the profession's Camping 101 introduction. The same guide lists later objects at 140 and 300, with higher tiers retaining the lower tier's benefit. Advanced blueprints need their own acquisition; reaching the skill alone does not teach them.

Camp objects by profession

This table describes reported functionality, not final buff numbers. A higher tier adds the named utility while keeping the earlier benefit in the public beta description.

FishingFish Bowl: 8% increased statsFishing Rack: uncommon-fish access and skill luresFishing Hut: rare-fish access and skill lures

Cooking has two related lines: its fire kits increase object capacity, while the beta guide also lists Cookie's Feast and Iron Oven as profession objects. Do not collapse those into one ladder and assume an Expert fire automatically supplies an Iron Oven.

Workstation access is recipe-specific. A camp forge is not evidence that Dark Iron can be smelted outside Blackrock Depths, and a Tanning Rack does not teach the pattern that uses it. Check both the recipe and the placed object's current description.

Buffs, stacking and cooperation

Blizzard says camp stat benefits are variants of class buffs and do not stack with those equivalents. The public beta guide associates Mana Well with Blessing of Wisdom, Enchanted Lute with Mark of the Wild, Incense Candle with Arcane Intellect, Lodestone with Blessing of Might, Faction Banner with Divine Spirit, First Aid Kit with Power Word: Fortitude and Fish Bowl with Blessing of Kings. If the players already have the stronger matching buff, choose another useful object rather than counting the same stat twice.

The current Sharpening Wheel tooltip grants Strength and is mutually exclusive with Strength of Earth Totem. The Fish Bowl grants 8% increased stats and is mutually exclusive with Blessing of Kings. Check the existing buff and its strength before spending an object cooldown. Camp Chair grants 2% critical strike to spells and attacks and is explicitly mutually exclusive with Moonkin Aura in its current tooltip.

The current Camp Tent tooltip raises rested experience to 5% of a level and has no effect when your rested pool is already above that amount. It does not add another 5% to an existing larger pool or grant a permanent experience multiplier. Fishing Rack's current tooltip grants uncommon-fish access for one hour and skill lures; Fishing Hut grants rare-fish access and lures. Both retain the Fish Bowl benefit. Repairs, workstation access and seed growth require using their objects; check which buffs persist after leaving the campsite.

One player contributes one object and triggers the shared object cooldown. The current Legacy Field Guide perk reduces that cooldown by 8%, 17% or 25% by rank. Permanence extends camp benefits by 50% or 100%; it does not add more object slots. Coordinate before placing: a repair bot may be more useful than a duplicate stat buff before a dungeon. Do not assume changing profession, relogging or placing a larger fire resets that cooldown.

Blueprint access

Blizzard confirms advanced profession blueprints dropping from specific dungeon bosses. Current item tooltips and current dungeon loot tables identify the following examples. Follow the linked dungeon route and take the character who needs a bind-on-pickup blueprint:

BlueprintRequired profession skillCurrent listed source
GreenhouseHerbalism 140Shadetooth, Excavation Site: Wetlands
Rock GardenMining 140Relic Guardian, Excavation Site: Wetlands
Repair BotEngineering 140Sneed, The Deadmines
AnvilBlacksmithing 140Gilnid, The Deadmines

Fishing RackFishing 140Gelihast, Blackfathom Deeps
Arcane SalvagerEnchanting 140Charlga Razorflank, Razorfen Kraul, in the current dungeon table; its item tooltip does not name a boss

These are chance drops, not a promised reward for one clear. A blueprint's boss source does not establish the source of every other profession's object. Check your own blueprint before planning a farm.

Before farming a blueprint, check its exact name, profession, required skill, binding and boss source. Learn a bind-on-pickup blueprint on the character who needs the recipe. A new object appearing in item data does not establish where its blueprint drops.

Keep a small stock of Basic kits and useful first-tier objects. Delay buying scarce advanced materials until you possess the blueprint and meet its use requirement. The new recipe guide lists the acquisition checks that also apply to camp recipes. Check current tooltips for buff scaling, timers and placement restrictions before spending scarce materials.
