Preparation

At a glance

WoW: Forever, five players. Location: Silverpine Forest, on the hill above Pyrewood Village, south of the Sepulcher. Enter through the keep's main door and follow the short approach to the portal. Plan a first group around 22-25 for a safer Arugal fight. Allow roughly an hour.

Horde travels south from the Sepulcher. Alliance can come from Southshore through Hillsbrad into Silverpine, keeping away from Horde guards; the long road through the Wetlands and Arathi requires care at this level. Both factions can enter, but Classic's ordinary dungeon quests are Horde-only.

Current Forever lists retain the original keep's quest route and add gear and campsite blueprints. Tactics use inherited Classic mechanics where a Forever change is unconfirmed. This guide is public-source research, not an in-game test.

Quests to pick up first

  • Deathstalkers in Shadowfang, Horde: High Executor Hadrec at the Sepulcher sends you to find Deathstalker Vincent. His body is in the courtyard after the prison door opens. Deathstalker Adamant is the living prisoner who opens the route, not the quest turn-in body.
  • Arugal Must Die, Horde: Dalar Dawnweaver at the Sepulcher wants Arugal's head. Accept it before leaving Silverpine's quest hub.
  • The Book of Ur, Horde: Keeper Bel'dugur in Undercity's Apothecarium wants a book from the shelf in Fenrus's library. It is a clickable object, not loot from Fenrus or Arugal.
  • The Test of Righteousness, Paladin on the inherited Alliance chain: Jordan Stilwell outside Ironforge sends you after materials for Verigan's Fist. Collect Jordan's Smithing Hammer from the courtyard stables with his material stage active.
  • A Moon-Kissed Blade, Undead Paladin, current Forever: have Trevan Rol's material stage accepted, then collect 1 Enchanted Silver Ingot from the cluttered table in Arugal's room after the fight. This is the Wolfsbane weapon chain; check the ingot before leaving the tower.
  • The Orb of Soran'ruk, Warlock: Doan Karhan near Camp Taurajo in the Barrens wants one Large Soran'ruk Fragment from Shadowfang Darksouls here and 3 Soran'ruk Fragments from Twilight Acolytes in Blackfathom Deeps. Have the quest active before killing them; either dungeon can be done first.

Alliance players without a relevant class quest can still run the keep for gear and experience. Do not expect to accept the three Horde quests by sharing them.

For a later City of Dalaran run, collect the Black Tome from the alchemy table up the rear stairs in Arugal's room before leaving. Use it at Ambermill Leyline Focus, around 63.4, 64.3 in Silverpine, inside the town hall beside Archmage Ataeric, to obtain the Tome of Dalaran for Lyn the Ignored's optional summon.

The run

  1. Rethilgore, prison: clear his guards, interrupt Soul Drain and heal its rooted target. Defeat him, then open the prisoner's cell and talk to the correct escort. Horde uses Deathstalker Adamant; Alliance uses Sorcerer Ashcrombe. Let the prisoner reach and open the courtyard door before proceeding.
  2. Courtyard and stables: Horde players find Vincent's body for Deathstalkers in Shadowfang. Paladins on Jordan's material stage collect his Smithing Hammer from the stables. The steed pack is optional for a boss-only route, but clear it safely if someone needs the hammer; do not send one player in alone.
  3. Razorclaw the Butcher, kitchen: keep the tank in healing range and finish his nearby enemies first. His drain is a concern for mana users, so a Paladin tank should start with enough mana rather than assuming this is a free recovery pull.
  4. Baron Silverlaine, dining hall: assign a curse remover for Veil of Shadow, which severely cuts healing received. Remove it from the tank promptly and avoid spending all the healer's mana healing into it.
  5. Commander Springvale: control or kill his guards and interrupt Holy Light. Keep the healer away from Wailing Guardsmen, whose close-range silence can shut down healing. Wait out his shield and recover before moving upstairs.
  6. Odo the Blindwatcher: kill his two Vile Bats while the tank holds Odo, limiting damage during his later Howling Rage. Hibernate or Polymorph can control these beasts if available. Keep damage away from the controlled bat until its turn in the kill order.
  7. Deathsworn Captain, optional rare: check the ramparts before Fenrus. Keep his Cleave facing away from the party and do not pull extra patrols to reach him.
  8. Fenrus the Devourer, library: remove Toxic Saliva if your group can and keep mana for the event after his death. Four voidwalkers follow Arugal's appearance; gather and kill them before anyone runs ahead. Check the shelf for the Book of Ur.
  9. Wolf Master Nandos: clear the worg packs around him first, then gather the fresh worgs he calls during the fight. Damage dealers help kill them so they do not accumulate on the healer.
  10. Archmage Arugal, upper room: start with full healer mana and gather on a platform where everyone can be healed. He teleports between ledges and casts heavy Void Bolts. The tank and melee move without breaking the healer's line of sight; ranged can keep attacking from a safe angle. Spread away from his close-range Thundershock stun. If Arugal's Curse turns a player hostile, stop damage on them, control them if needed and use backup healing when the healer is affected. Check the table for any Enchanted Silver Ingot objective and the Black Tome before leaving.

Pull Wailing Guardsmen away from the next pack, and let physical damage finish Shadowfang Moonwalkers while their Anti-Magic Shell is active. The corridors are too narrow for reliable skips past every caster. Dismiss pets before any ledge shortcut.

Loot worth staying for

Use the inherited targets below with the current Forever item and drop table; new additions are labelled:

  • Rethilgore: Rugged Spaulders.
  • Razorclaw: Butcher's Cleaver, Butcher's Slicer and Bloody Apron.
  • Baron Silverlaine: Baron's Scepter and Silverlaine's Family Seal; Forever sources additionally list Blade of Silverlaine.
  • Commander Springvale: Arced War Axe, Commander's Crest and the new Worgenbane Talisman, whose use stuns a worgen.
  • Odo: Odo's Ley Staff, Girdle of the Blindwatcher and the new Blindwatcher's Sight cloth headpiece.
  • Deathsworn Captain: Haunting Blade and Phantom Armor.
  • Fenrus: Fenrus' Hide and Black Wolf Bracers.
  • Nandos: Wolfmaster Cape and Feline Mantle.
  • Arugal: Robes of Arugal, Belt of Arugal and Meteor Shard. Horde's Arugal Must Die also rewards Seal of Sylvanas.
  • Campsite blueprints: Tanning Rack from Razorclaw requires 140 Leatherworking; Toxin Study from Springvale requires 140 First Aid. Agree recipe loot rules before these bosses.

Tips

  • Assign Silverlaine's curse removal before pulling: current Forever data gives Mage Remove Lesser Curse at 18 and Druid Remove Curse at 24. A Druid who is actively tanking needs healing cover to shift out of Bear Form and cast it.
  • Arugal is the main step up in difficulty. Drink before him, keep a spare healer ready for his curse, and do not chase a teleport out of healing range.
  • Three ordinary Horde quests can fit into one trip. The class items are separate checks, so ask about the stables, Darksouls, library and Arugal's table before leaving each area.
