At a glance
Paladin heals through Holy, tanks through Protection or deals melee and Holy damage through Retribution. You also supply Blessings, Auras, cleanses and emergency protection. Choose the role section and equipment set before planning a build.
Build examples use beta build 1.60.1.70425, snapshot 2026-10-16. This is public-source research, not an in-game test. The current beta cap is 30; level-60 allocations are higher-level plans. Without the Legacy Talented perk, class points begin at level 10. Dual Specialization unlocks at level 40. Visit a major-city class trainer to change talents.
Paladins are available as Alliance Human or Dwarf and Horde Undead. The Undead introduction and epic-mount quest are distinct, so use the appropriate faction's trainer and quest chain.
Leveling build
Starting plan. Holy Strike arrives at level 6, Seal of Fury at level 10 and Consecration becomes baseline at level 20. Retribution can build toward Seal of Command, Sacred Arbiter at 16 talent points, Repentance at 21 points and Twist of Light at 31 points. Pursuit of Justice improves movement; Sanctified Judgement supports mana recovery. A Holy Shock hybrid is an alternative for players who prefer spell damage and healing support to the Twist of Light playstyle.
- Keep the appropriate Seal active and use Holy Strike in Forever. Judgement does not consume the active Seal, so you do not need to recast it after each Judgement.
- Use a damage Judgement or maintain the useful assigned Judgement for the fight. Heal and drink when needed instead of spending every mana point on one extra attack.
- Reserve Consecration for targets and durations that repay its cost. Forever gives most of its damage to the first four enemies that enter it; it is not a license to pull a whole room.
- Use Hammer of Justice for an interruptible threat or to create a heal window. A stun is not a universal interrupt against stun-immune bosses.
- Keep a safe escape available. Divine Shield, Lay on Hands and a potion solve different emergencies and can have restrictions or cooldown interactions.
Undead weapon preparation: Wolfsbane
Undead Paladins have a distinct early weapon chain. Start Diplomatic Incident when Danitha Morr at Bandarion Keep offers it, then speak to Trevan Rol at the Sepulcher about the missing Earthen Ring travelers. Follow the rescue story until Lumina offers The Debt, then A Moon-Kissed Blade.
Before the material stage, get Trevan's Weapon Notes. The current quest requires 1 Whitestone Oak Lumber, 1 Enchanted Silver Ingot and 1 Purified Kor Gem, alongside those notes. Accept the actual material stage before arranging the trips:
- Lumber: Goblin Woodcarvers in Sneed's workshop in the Deadmines.
- Ingot: the table among the final-room enemies beside Arugal in Shadowfang Keep. Clear the room safely before looting it.
- Purified gem: take Seeking the Kor Gem from Ulric Frostveil at Zoram'gar Outpost in Ashenvale. Kill naga in Blackfathom Deeps' outer caverns, before the instance portal, for a Corrupted Kor Gem; return to Ulric for purification.
Current quest objectives and recorded beta footage support these pickups. This is the Horde weapon bill; Jordan's Refined Ore is not one of its ingredients.
After delivering the materials, An Underrated Talent sends the supplied Bundle of Blacksmithing Materials to Ott in Tarren Mill. Complete his smithing follow-ups to obtain the Moonsilver Blade. Keep it and use it against Old Fire-Eye near the gates to Gilneas, then complete the quest for Wolfsbane. Practise the required two-handed Sword skill before that fight, and retain the intermediate blade for the quest rather than selling it as soon as another weapon drops.
Current quest and item records establish this core chain and bill; the recorded beta walkthrough covers its travel. Follow the live quest objectives for intervening rescue and smithing steps. An item's displayed item level is not a character-use requirement.
Endgame builds by role
Forever Holy. Reverence supports Spirit regeneration while casting and is a prerequisite for Illumination's critical-heal mana refund. Divine Favor moves to 16 talent points, Holy Shock to 21 points and Light's Vigil becomes the 31-point talent. Critical Holy Shock and Flash of Light heals can accelerate Holy Light through Infusion of Light. Use Flash of Light for efficient smaller healing and Holy Light for a larger incoming deficit. Holy Shock gives an instant response or starts the relevant talent interaction. Use an Infusion-accelerated Holy Light when the damage needs it, and cancel a long cast if the heal is no longer needed.
Light's Vigil is a setup tool: place it on the intended friendly target, then cast Holy Shock on that target to trigger its party heal without starting Holy Shock's cooldown. It is limited per party and costs mana. Prepare it before predictable party damage when possible. It does not turn every ordinary Holy Shock into an unrestricted full-raid heal. Voice of Truth provides a short immunity to silence and interruption; it does not prevent every form of crowd control.
Forever Protection. Improved Seal of Fury, Shield Specialization, Sacred Duty, Swift Judgement, Templar's Bulwark, Iron Creed and Holy Shield supply mana, control and survival. Use Righteous Fury, a shield and Seal of Fury. Keep Holy Shield and the relevant mitigation effects available, use Holy Strike for threat and Iron Creed, and apply Consecration to a controlled pack. A fast one-handed weapon has specific synergy with Seal of Fury's fixed bonus per swing.
Judgement while Seal of Fury is active is the 10-yard taunt. Follow it with threat, and use Swift Judgement when you need the cooldown reset after a failed taunt or another urgent target; the next Judgement also costs no mana. Templar's Bulwark grants an eight-second absorb shield equal to your maximum health and applies Forbearance and cannot be used during Forbearance. Plan its use alongside Divine Shield and Divine Protection; do not use one casually and discover the intended tank cooldown is locked out.
Position enemies away from the group, mark a kill target and use crowd control beyond the pack you can reliably hold. Watch mana and recover between pulls. Neither blocking nor an active mana-return talent guarantees unlimited mana against every enemy type.
Forever Retribution. Sacred Arbiter lets Holy Strike refresh Judgements, including other Paladins' effects. Maintain the assigned effects, use Holy Strike and Judgement, and use Hammer of Wrath when available against a weakened target. With Twist of Light, replacing a damage Seal leaves an Echo for the next melee attack. Plan Seal changes around that next attack and available mana; the Echo mechanic supplies the transition window. The capstone is required for this new twisting mechanic.
Champion of the Light supports spell damage from Intellect, while Instrument of Law improves Hammer of Wrath and reduces threat while Righteous Fury is off. A Holy Shock hybrid trades deep Retribution tools for the earlier Holy Shock milestone; it is an alternative build, not a way to possess both 31-point capstones at level 60. Holy Strike has a baseline 10-second cooldown, and Vengeance stacks up to three times.
Current Forever allocations
Choose a role below and open its checkpoint or full plan in the current Paladin calculator. Level-30 checkpoints spend 21 points; level-60 plans spend 51. The lists show every allocated rank.
These checkpoints and level ranges assume zero ranks in the Legacy Talented perk. Talented makes points available earlier, but the total remains capped at 51. Select your actual Talented rank in the calculator when using an earlier checkpoint. Follow the listed order; each number is additional points in that step, and omitted talents have zero points.
Holy healing: 31/20/0. Healing set, with a shield for its defensive support points. Protection adds survival, Blessing utility and a shorter stun cooldown; it does not make this a Holy Shield tank allocation.

Protection tank: 11/31/9. Shield, Righteous Fury and Seal of Fury. One supporting Reverence rank leaves additional mana regeneration optional rather than claiming it is maxed.

What to look for on gear
Holy wants healing power, Intellect, useful critical strike, Spirit and mana regeneration. Protection needs Armor, Stamina, Defense, block and reliable threat, including suitable Holy damage stats. Retribution wants a strong weapon, Strength or Attack Power, applicable hit and critical strike, with Intellect and spell damage relevant to the actual Forever build. Spirit is useful through specific regeneration mechanics, not automatically a primary stat for every role.
Count current talent effects by role: Precision reaches 3% hit at three ranks, while Divine Precision reaches 18% specifically for Holy spells. Neither establishes a final boss hit target for every attack. Friendly heals do not need a damage hit cap. Tanks should compare Armor, health, Defense, avoidance, threat and encounter mechanics rather than treating a single inherited Defense number as complete protection.
Forever merges hit and critical-strike item stats, while Protection Precision and Holy Divine Precision cover different needs. Divine Precision is intended to support Holy damage from healing gear; it does not mean a friendly heal could otherwise miss. Check current talents, attack types and boss rules before choosing a final hit target.
Current dungeon examples. Protection can compare Mirror of Rath'mael from Rath'mael in Ruins of Lordaeron: level 19, 547 Armor, 5 Strength and 1% block chance. Holy can compare Runemender's Seal from Arcane Anomaly in City of Dalaran: level 27, 4 Stamina, 7 Spirit and up to 9 healing with 3 spell damage. The latter is a healing-oriented ring, not a replacement for a Retribution weapon upgrade.
Consumables, utility and PvP
Bring water, role-appropriate food, healing or mana potions, bandages and the reagents for Greater Blessings and spells you use. Holy can use healing or mana-regeneration consumables; melee uses damage elixirs and suitable weapon consumables; tanks may need protection potions or Greater Stoneshield Potion. Confirm current recipe availability and stacking in Forever before buying supplies.
Current early utility is narrower than the later kit: Purify at level 8 removes poison and disease, Redemption at level 12 resurrects out of combat, and Cleanse adds friendly magic removal at level 42. A level-30 beta Paladin cannot supply Cleanse for a magic debuff.
Assign Blessings, Auras and Judgements with other Paladins. Cleanse removes magic, poison and disease, but not curses. Blessing of Protection prevents physical damage and can stop a physical damage dealer attacking; use it to save the correct target and cancel it when appropriate. A tank using immunity can redirect enemies to somebody else, so plan an immunity-cleansing maneuver rather than pressing it without warning.
Current beta records list Salvation separately from Blessings at level 26: it reduces the target's generated threat by 30% for one hour. Assign it to damage dealers and healers who need threat reduction, keeping it off the active tank. Mass Salvation at level 60 covers the selected class in the group or raid and consumes a Symbol of Kings. Check for same-class tanks before using it; a cast aimed at a damage Warrior also covers Warrior tanks. Revoke, learned at level 26, removes Salvation or Mass Salvation from one party or raid member, letting you clear that threat reduction from the tank. Resistance Auras become raid-wide within their stated range. Paladin still lacks a conventional interrupt and a movement slow in Blizzard's intended kit, so coordinate those jobs with allies.
In PvP, protect a healer with Blessing of Freedom, a timely dispel or Hammer of Justice; preserve an emergency heal while applying pressure. Do not confuse a damage-oriented Holy hybrid with a full raid-healing allocation. Check Forbearance, your active Seal, Righteous Fury and the current Blessing assignment before every important pull.
