At a glance
Forever-only dungeon, group of five. Blizzard's announced band is 15-20; a first group around 17-20 has a safer final graveyard and heavy abomination pulls. Location: the surface ruins above Undercity in Tirisfal Glades, not the city's elevators. Enter from the Brill road, stay in the upper courtyard and find the portal on the left up the stairs, around 63.1, 67.5 on the Tirisfal map.
Horde has a short trip from Brill or Undercity. Alliance can travel west from Southshore into Silverpine Forest, then follow the road north into Tirisfal Glades. Watch for hostile patrols and settlements rather than treating the road as safe; avoid Undercity's guards and stay in the surface ruins. Plan the whole group and return travel before entering Horde territory. Allow roughly 45-60 minutes for a first clear plus the walk out.
There are six currently documented encounters, including two wave events, plus a possible rare. This guide follows public beta walkthroughs checked on 17 October. GetWoWGuides has not tested the run in game; names, quest access, rewards and tuning can change.
Quests to pick up first
Pick up the Horde's four outside objectives before entering. The Wrath of Rath'mael, Light's Justice and the family quests require level 15; The New Plague and the other inside starts require 16. Alliance objectives and both factions' crest quests start inside; inspect quest items as you find them.
Horde, before entering
- The Wrath of Rath'mael, Deathguard Kristof on the Brill-to-Undercity road around 65.2, 60.2: kill Rath'mael and return to Kristof.
- Light's Justice, Morbin Lightbane in Undercity's Royal Quarter: collect 25 Intact Limbs from eligible undead. Check each player's count before the final room.
- The New Plague, Theodore Griffs in Undercity's Apothecarium: loot the Highly Toxic Strain from Witherfang.
- A Frightened Request, Tabitha Heartweaver beside the Sepulcher flight path in Silverpine: find Edward Heartweaver's body near Rath'mael, then report back to Tabitha.
Horde, started inside
- Unending Torment: loot the Abominable Head from The Baron and inspect it. Take it to Master Apothecary Faranell in Undercity, then follow the repeated-name stages involving Othmar's Unfinished Abomination in the next room. Return to Faranell after speaking with Othmar to choose the equipment reward. For the later reagent stage, buy Toxic Skullcap from Tawny Grisette and Essence of Agony from Ezekiel Graves, and collect Blisterweed from the container behind Katrina Alliestar. Give Faranell the three ingredients, then use his Hissing Serum on the large pink worm upstairs above Othmar and return to him. These follow-ups stay in Undercity.
- Crest of Lordaeron: search the ruins' possible crest locations and inspect your looted crest. Horde takes it to Oran Snakewrithe in Undercity.
Alliance, started inside
- Abominable Creatures, Captain Truman near the entrance inside: accept before killing The Baron, loot the Head of the Baron and return to Truman. The Alliance head objective is distinct from the Horde item-start chain.
- Bloodied Insignia: inspect an insignia from eligible undead, collect the 10 required insignias, then take them to General Marcus Jonathan in Stormwind. He is the turn-in, not the outside pickup.
- Crest of Lordaeron: inspect the crest found inside and take it to Lady Dena Kennedy in Stormwind.
- Remember That I Love You: inspect Edward Heartweaver's last scrawlings/body in the graveyard to obtain the Blood-Stained Letter. Take it to Orphan Matron Nightingale in Stormwind, then follow the later delivery to Avette Fellwood in Duskwood. Nightingale's city stage is not the initial dungeon pickup.
Check the crest's possible spawns along the route: the room behind the interactable door in the early spider area, the outside walls at the tops of the nearby tower and the tower beside The Abandoned, and the tower floor or rear pavilion/crypt around Bjork. Opening the early door releases a banshee, so let the tank open it with the group ready. The crest is not a fixed spawn; each player checks their own looted item and quest rather than relying on a party share.
The run
Follow King's Alley, Lordamere Overlook, Market Street and the graveyard. Side events can be completed in another order, but pull only into cleared space. Spider patrols, banshees and heavy abominations are more dangerous together than most individual bosses.
- King's Alley: clear the fast spider patrols before stationary packs. Remove poison and disease as available. Banshees can silence nearby casters, so kill or control them before leaving one on the healer.
- Witherfang: clear his patrol path and account for his two spider companions. The tank gathers all three; control or kill an add if the tank is taking too much damage. Cure Leech Poison, which otherwise damages its target and heals the boss. Horde loots the Highly Toxic Strain before leaving.
- The Baron, side passage: clear the skeleton packs first. The tank uses a wall behind them and stays topped up before Knockout, a heavy hit with stun and displacement. Ranged stays away from nearby Trample, and damage dealers ease off if the tank loses control during the stun. Use available stuns to reduce the pressure. Loot the appropriate faction head item.
- Lordamere Overlook: pull Flesh Golems and Living Monstrosities alone. Their knockbacks can send the tank into another pack. Clear the house area before starting the optional event.
- Viktor the Vile, optional chimney event: interact with the chimney/fire in the burned house to begin successive waves. Start at full mana and have the tank collect each wave, including the heavy golem before Viktor. Cure his Leech Poison and keep healing resources for the boss rather than spending everything on the first adds. This is a side event, not the dungeon's final boss.
- The Abandoned, Market Street statue event: approach the glowing-eyed statue with the party ready. Survive the three opening waves, then gather the boss. Keep ranged and the healer outside close Frost Nova, interrupt or stun Life Drain and allow for melee slowing effects. If the event pauses, check cleared side corridors for a stuck surviving wave mob before triggering other pulls.
- Bjork, patrol beyond Market Street: clear nearby ghoul groups before engaging. Put safe terrain behind the tank for knockback. Stop spending spells into the short Anti-Magic Shield, then resume when it ends. Find his patrol rather than assuming his absence at one spot is a bug.
- Rath'mael, graveyard final: clear the area around the summoning circle and begin with healer mana. Interrupt or stun Flamestrike when possible and move out of its ground effect even if the cast completes. Keep fresh ground available rather than stacking all players on the tank. After the kill, inspect Edward's body/scrawlings for the faction family quest and check any required kill credit.
Lordaeron Captain is a reported rare on the western side, friendly to Alliance and an optional fight for Horde. Check his area only if the group wants the detour; his absence does not block the final boss.
Loot worth staying for
Current beta sources list the following examples; drop chances and final item stats are not established here.
- Witherfang: Segmented Spider Leg, Atrophic Girdle and Witherbite Bracers.
- The Baron: Meathook Slicer, Abomination Bones and Leftover Abomination Skin.
- Viktor: Vileblood Scimitar, Bloodied Chestwraps and Vilewalkers.
- The Abandoned: Scepter of the Abandoned, Rotmender's Leggings and Grip of Fear.
- Bjork: Corpse Chopper, Bonerust Leggings and Tuskwrap Belt.
- Rath'mael: Coldspire Staff supplies Frost damage, while Mirror of Rath'mael is a Strength/block shield. He also drops Rotmender's Treads; campsite Blueprint: Fermenter requires 140 Alchemy, while Blueprint: Arcane Salvager requires 140 Enchanting.
- Unending Torment, Horde: Monstrous Cleaver, Grave Shroud and Slain Baron's Signet.
- Bloodied Insignia, Alliance: Remembrance Armor or Duty Bound Leggings; compare the current reward window before choosing.
Tips
- Rest before the chimney and statue events. Neither should start while the healer is still drinking or another player is collecting a crest.
- Crowd control has creature-type limits: many humanoid controls do not work on undead. Priest Shackle Undead starts at level 20, so check training before assigning it in a younger group. An appropriate stun can also help, while fear can send an enemy into another pack.
- If a wave event pauses, check side corridors for a surviving enemy. If it still cannot progress, finish the other objectives and check current beta notes before resetting the instance.
- Before leaving, check collection counts, head items, the crest and Edward's body. Alliance turn-ins are largely in Stormwind; Horde has several separate city and Silverpine destinations.
