At a glance

Legacy is Forever's account progression system. Complete a Legacy Challenge to earn one Legacy Point. Every eligible non-Hardcore character can spend the account's available points independently, with a 16-point spending cap per character at launch. That is 16 across all three perk trees combined. Spending points on one character does not take them away from another.

The three parts serve different purposes: Challenges earn points, Perks spend them on character benefits, and Rewards unlock account cosmetics. Earning more than 16 points still progresses the reward track, but does not let a character equip every perk.

This guide uses Blizzard's current announcements and the October 16 public beta data for client build 1.60.1.70425. It is source research, not our own game test. The beta has granted players 16 test points; that grant is not a promise that a new launch account starts with 16.

Unlock it and spend your first point

  1. Earn the first point. The usual first milestone is a character reaching level 25. Reaching 150 in a non-gathering primary profession, or completing the full world-exploration challenge, can also unlock the interface.
  2. Open Legacy with the shield menu icon or the default Y key. Check Challenges, available points, Perks and Rewards separately.
  3. Choose the immediate purpose: outdoor recovery, earlier class talents, professions, travel, group support or reputation. Read the perk's activity exclusions before spending.
  4. Buy an available rank. Some perks require five or ten points already spent in their own tree, and a prerequisite arrow requires every rank of the linked preceding perk. Both checks apply. Points in another tree do not meet that tree's gate.
  5. Confirm the allocation on this character. An alt can make a different choice from the same earned account total.

With only one point, Working Overtime can help a profession session, Well Rested can support parked leveling time, and Thrill of Adventure can support outdoor killing blows. A deep perk such as Talented is not an immediately available one-point purchase. Its first rank needs five Well Rested ranks plus the Talented rank itself, or six Legacy Points total; maxing both costs ten. Save or spend toward those actual prerequisites.

How to earn the 65 announced points

Blizzard lists 65 challenges across six categories. Each completed challenge awards one point, and the same account challenge cannot be farmed repeatedly on duplicate characters.

CategoryAnnounced pointsRequired milestones
Classes27Level 25, 45 and 60 on each of the nine classes
Tradeskills18Skill 150, 225 and 300 in each of the six non-gathering primary professions
PvP12Ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14; Exalted for each of four battleground-reputation challenges; the week 4, 7 and 10 Field of Honor journey quests
Adventure2Explore the entire world map on one character; complete the Lord Valthalak dungeon-set quest line
Dungeons3Defeat every required final boss in each challenge bracket: level 15-25, 26-45 and 46-60
Raids3Defeat Onyxia; all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses; all eight Barrow Deeps bosses

The six eligible professions are Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring. Mining, Herbalism and Skinning are gathering professions. Cooking, Fishing, First Aid and class skills such as Lockpicking can benefit from relevant perks but do not supply those 18 tradeskill challenge points.

Read the actual dungeon challenge's checklist: one final-boss kill does not finish a bracket containing several dungeons. Confirm its required bosses and any character-level restrictions before planning a complete-clear route.

You do not need alts to reach the spending cap. Blizzard gives a one-character illustration with class levels, two crafting professions, PvP, Adventure, Dungeons and Raids. Alts offer additional class and profession challenges, but repeating level 25 on another character of a class already credited is not a new class milestone.

Not every point is available on the first day. PvP journey weeks take time, and the announced opening raids arrive on 9 December 2026. Earn points from activities you already intend to play before funding a costly profession change purely for Legacy. The full 65-point total is an announced progression pool, not an opening-day shopping budget.

Read the current perk trees

The tables show every named perk in the October 16 public data. A gate is points already spent in that same tree before buying the perk. Prerequisites are listed separately. The six Unknown entries are placeholders; no effect or usable allocation is established for them.

Adventure

PerkRanks; tree gatePrerequisiteCurrent effect and limit
Well Rested5; 0NoneRested accumulation and rested capacity rise by 4% per rank, up to 20%
Talented5; 5Well Rested 5/5First class talent point moves to level 9/8/7/6/5 by rank; maximum remains 51
Thrill of Adventure5; 0NoneA non-trivial killing blow restores 1-5% maximum health and mana over ten seconds; inactive in dungeons, raids and battlegrounds
High Alert2; 5NoneStealth detection improves as though you were one or two levels higher; inactive in battlegrounds
Field Guide3; 5NoneCamp-feature cooldown falls by 8%, 17% or 25%
Frequent Flier1; 10Field Guide 3/3Flight-path price falls by 50% and flight mount speed rises by 20%
Field Medicine2; 5NoneYour bandage use shortens Recently Bandaged by five or ten seconds; inactive in dungeons, raids and battlegrounds

Thrill of Adventure needs the killing blow, not merely participation in a nearby kill. Its recovery arrives over time, so it cannot replace an emergency heal before the next hit. Field Medicine changes a later bandage restriction; taking damage can still interrupt the current bandage channel.

Resourcefulness

PerkRanks; tree gatePrerequisiteCurrent effect and limit
Gourmand3; 0NoneFood-benefit duration rises by 33%, 67% or 100%
Permanence2; 5Gourmand 3/3Eligible long-duration class stat buffs and camp benefits last 50% or 100% longer
The Quick and the Dead2; 0NoneGhost movement rises by 5% or 10%; helpful abilities cost no resources for one or two minutes after resurrection, ending when combat begins
Reinforce5; 0NoneDeath-related durability loss falls by 8% per rank, up to 40%
Diplomat5; 5NoneReputation gains rise by 2% per rank, up to 10%
For Great Honor5; 5NoneHonor Point gains rise by 2% per rank, up to 10%
Reagent Economy1; 10The Quick and the Dead 2/2Class spells no longer consume vendor-purchasable reagents

Reinforce reduces death damage to equipment; it does not discount every repair bill. The resurrection resource window helps rebuff a group, and ends on entering combat. For Great Honor changes Honor income, not a fixed PvP journey week's completion date.

Blizzard's Legacy article also announces material-free tier-one camp features with Reagent Economy, while the October 16 export only describes vendor-bought class reagents. Check the crafting window before assuming camp inputs are free. Non-vendor resources remain separate: the beta notes specifically fixed an Incubus summon incorrectly avoiding its Soul Shard cost.

Professions

PerkRanks; tree gatePrerequisiteCurrent effect and limit
Working Overtime5; 0NoneSkill-up chance rises by 4% per rank, up to 20%, for primary, secondary and class tradeskills
Bountiful Harvest5; 0NoneScarce material discovery from Mining, Herbalism and Skinning rises by 20% per rank, up to 100%
Bartering2; 5NoneVendor item gold prices fall by 5% or 10%
Dedicated Study1; 10Bartering 2/2A daily ability adds one skill to your lowest primary or secondary profession; at all-five 300, it supplies 2-4 of a random Elemental Essence instead
Performance Bonus3; 5Bountiful Harvest 5/5A crate turn-in has a 5%, 10% or 15% chance to award twice its Merchant's Favor
Master Chef5; 5NoneCooking has a 10-50% chance to produce an extra result
Luremaster2; 5NoneFishing with an active lure has a 25% or 50% chance to give an extra fish

Bartering applies to vendor items. Blizzard's current notes identify training and repair discounts as a fixed bug, so keep those costs in your budget. Bountiful Harvest applies to Scarce resources; it does not double every ordinary herb, ore or leather drop. Do not read Bountiful Harvest's "increased by 100%" at full rank as a guaranteed Scarce drop from every node or corpse. Performance Bonus concerns Merchant's Favor from the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics, rather than a guaranteed increase on every turn-in.

Working Overtime does not justify an exact percentage cut to a shopping list. Master Chef and Luremaster affect output, without establishing a second skill-up attempt or doubled quest-fish odds. Use the profession guides for routes that budget materials without assuming those bonuses.

Dedicated Study checks the lowest eligible skill. If Fishing is far below your intended crafting skill, do not expect the daily point to go to that craft. The Essence condition requires both current primary professions and all three secondary professions at 300. Lockpicking is covered by Working Overtime's wording but is not one of those five skills. Check the ability's actual daily availability before planning repeated uses.

Talented and class build limits

Talented changes when class points arrive. With zero ranks, a level-30 character has 21 points. With five ranks, that character can have 26 and reaches the 51-point cap at level 55. At the current level-30 beta cap, even rank five cannot reach a 31-point class capstone. A level-60 character still has at most 51; the perk does not buy a second 31-point capstone.

For rank r from zero through five, the current data implies a class-point budget of min(51, max(0, level - 9 + r)). Your actual rank matters: one Talented rank is not the five-rank benefit. Ordinary class talent row and prerequisite rules still apply.

The class guides give zero-Talented checkpoints and a full 51-point allocation for each role. Use the Talented rank selector in the talent calculator to match the character's earlier point budget. Follow the chosen point order as points arrive. The perk does not automatically train higher-level baseline spells, weapon skills or form abilities.

Four practical 16-point examples

These examples fit the current named-perk ranks, same-tree gates and prerequisite connections. Spend in the order shown; each number is ranks to buy in that step. They are starting choices, not a claim that one allocation is best for every character.

PurposeOrdered allocationWhat it gives up
Earlier class talents and outdoor recoveryAdventure: Well Rested 5 → Talented 5 → Thrill of Adventure 5 → Field Medicine 1No profession, flight-price or group-buff investment; outdoor recovery exclusions still apply
Crafting and daily studyProfessions: Working Overtime 5 → Bountiful Harvest 3 → Bartering 2 → Dedicated Study 1 → Master Chef 5No early class points or travel perks; harvesting ranks may be less useful on a pure crafter
Gathering, crate turn-ins and fishingProfessions: Bountiful Harvest 5 → Working Overtime 5 → Performance Bonus 3 → Luremaster 2 → Bartering 1No Dedicated Study or class-point acceleration; requires an active lure for the fishing benefit
Group recovery and reputationResourcefulness: Gourmand 3 → The Quick and the Dead 2 → Permanence 2 → Reinforce 3 → Reagent Economy 1 → Diplomat 5No direct profession bonus or early class points; resurrection benefits do not apply to avoiding death

For frequent travel, spend ten Adventure points including all three Field Guide ranks before buying Frequent Flier as the eleventh point. For PvP Honor, reach five Resourcefulness points before investing in For Great Honor. High Alert explicitly does not help inside battlegrounds, and neither Thrill of Adventure nor Field Medicine becomes a dungeon or raid survival perk.

Start with the activity that is costing you time. A gatherer may value Scarce materials, a raider may value buff duration and recovery, and an alt may value earlier class milestones. Recheck the whole 16-point allocation when changing purpose, rather than buying a disconnected deep perk without its gate.

Changing perks

Visit a major-city class trainer to change Legacy talents. Check the displayed fee and the resulting allocation before confirming. The beta notes set the minimum Legacy respec fee to one silver and reduce its escalation by one respec per hour; Blizzard explicitly labels that beta behavior. It is not an established launch price schedule.

Changing one character's perks does not change another character's choices. Keep a note of the intended ranks before a respec, particularly with Talented. At level 55, rank five permits 51 class points but rank zero permits only 46; do not remove the perk merely because you reached its 51-point ceiling early. Check the client's class-allocation handling before confirming that change. At level 60, every rank has the same 51-point budget, so those Talented ranks no longer add class points and can be reconsidered for another purpose.

Rewards and Hardcore

Blizzard's current Legacy article shows these account-progress milestones in its reward-track image. Cosmetic progress and the 16-point equipped-perk limit are different counters.

Earned Legacy pointsReward shown
15Replica Ironforge Air Rifle
25Spectral Bear Cub pet
40Spectral Bear Tabard
55Reins of the Spectral Bear mount

The mount's current item record requires character level 60 and Journeyman Riding, even though the account reward unlocks at 55 Legacy points. Its mount collection is account-wide. A level-55 character does not satisfy the mount's character-level gate merely because the reward number is also 55.

The permanent rifle reward is the Holstered Replica Ironforge Air Rifle toy. It produces a separate conjured rifle that lasts one hour; that temporary item's expiry does not mean the toy reward was lost. Its friendly-shootout stun targets other players who also have the replica equipped. Check the Rewards panel for claim status; reaching any reward threshold does not increase your equipped-perk limit.

Hardcore arrives after launch and uses separate progression. Non-Hardcore Legacy Challenges do not appear completed in Hardcore. Completing a challenge in Hardcore grants that challenge to other rulesets. PvP challenges cannot be completed there; Blizzard plans 12 Hardcore-specific challenges for its opening without publishing their full objectives in the checked article.

Use the Hardcore guide for ruleset preparation. Do not count Normal-earned points as a starting Hardcore perk budget or treat resurrection convenience as protection against a Hardcore death. Check the actual Hardcore rules and perk availability when that ruleset opens.
