Forever planning status: Use this guide to plan Hydraxian Waterlords progression in WoW: Forever. The rates, caps, quest steps and reward gates below are inherited Classic reference; their Forever tuning and availability remain unconfirmed. Confirm the Duke's quest chain and water rules before assigning the seven rune douses. Forever's Legacy Diplomat perk and racial bonuses can change gains; use your actual displayed reputation per turn-in when converting the base figures below into a shopping list.

Inherited Classic baseline:

The Hydraxian Waterlords provide the water used to douse seven runes in Molten Core. Duke Hydraxis stands on an island off southeastern Azshara, around 79, 74. Both factions follow the same quest chain. This is separate from Lothos Riftwaker's Molten Core entrance shortcut.

Start at Neutral in the Classic baseline; the useful targets are Honored for Aqual Quintessence and Revered for Eternal Quintessence.

How to gain it at each standing

Standing you are leavingReliable sourcesWhere they stop
Neutral and FriendlyDesert Rumblers and Dust Stormers in Silithus, Greater Obsidian Elementals in Burning Steppes; dungeon and Molten Core killsNormal outdoor elementals stop at 5,999/6,000 Friendly, one point short of Honored
HonoredMolten Core trash and bosses; Lord Incendius in Blackrock Depths, Pyroguard Emberseer in Upper Blackrock SpireTrash and the dungeon alternatives stop at Revered
ReveredMolten Core bossesMost bosses stop at 20,999/21,000 Revered; Golemagg or Ragnaros can carry you into Exalted
ExaltedNo additional rune reward to pursueThe permanent Quintessence is already available at Revered

Normal outdoor elementals give 5 base reputation each. Molten Core trash generally gives 20 or 40; most bosses give 100, Golemagg 150 and Ragnaros 200. Majordomo surrenders and gives no kill reputation. Prioritize the raid clears you already need rather than spending hours on low-value dungeon boss detours.

Reputation bars require 3,000 to Friendly, another 6,000 to Honored, 12,000 to Revered and 21,000 to Exalted. If outdoor farming leaves you at 5,999 Friendly, one eligible dungeon or raid kill supplies the missing point. More of the same outdoor kills will not.

The Duke Hydraxis chain in order

  1. At level 55 or above, take Poisoned Water and Stormers and Rumblers from Duke Hydraxis. Use the supplied Aspect of Neptulon on living poisoned water elementals in Eastern Plaguelands, then kill the transformed Discordant Surges and collect 12 Discordant Bracers. Keep the Aspect for the return. In northwestern Silithus, kill 15 Dust Stormers and 15 Desert Rumblers. Return both to the Duke.
  2. Take Eye of the Emberseer. Kill Pyroguard Emberseer in Upper Blackrock Spire, loot his eye with the quest active and return to Azshara. Someone in the group must open UBRS with a Seal of Ascension.
  3. Take The Molten Core. Kill 1 Molten Giant, 1 Firelord, 1 Ancient Core Hound and 1 Lava Surger inside Molten Core, then return. Merely entering the raid does not finish this step.
  4. Complete Agent of Hydraxis by reaching Honored. The preceding chain does not itself supply all the needed reputation.
  5. Take Hands of the Enemy before your next relevant boss kills. Loot the hands from Lucifron, Gehennas, Shazzrah and Sulfuron Harbinger. If you killed them before accepting the quest, wait for the next reset. A character already bound to that raid cannot bypass the lockout by joining another save.
  6. Return the hands. Finish A Hero's Reward, including collecting the reward at the Duke's coffer, and speak to Hydraxis for Aqual Quintessence. At Revered, request Eternal Quintessence instead.

Rewards by standing

StandingReward and limitation
Honored, after the chainAqual Quintessence: unique, consumed when you douse one rune. Return to the Duke for another after use
Revered, after the chainEternal Quintessence: reusable, with a one-hour cooldown between douses
ExaltedNo further rune tool; Eternal Quintessence is already unlocked

A Hero's Reward also offers a choice of fire resistance rings.

Plan the seven douses

The runes belong to Magmadar, Gehennas, Garr, Baron Geddon, Shazzrah, Sulfuron Harbinger and Golemagg. Lucifron has no rune. Kill the relevant bosses, then douse all seven to make Majordomo Executus available. Defeating Majordomo and speaking to him at Ragnaros's chamber are still required before the final fight.

Ask seven raiders to arrive with water and assign a name to each rune. One Honored raider cannot carry seven Aqual Quintessences. One Revered raider can reuse Eternal Quintessence over time, but its cooldown makes that a poor plan for seven douses in a normal evening. Carry spare water holders in case someone leaves early.

Tips

  • Before leaving Azshara, inspect your bags for the actual Quintessence. Reputation and a completed quest do not douse a rune by themselves.
  • Do the Duke's returns before the raid reset. Most delays come from accepting a boss-loot quest after that boss is already dead.
  • Record doused runes in the raid's own instance save. Killing bosses in a different save does not unlock Majordomo in yours.
  • Do not make Exalted mandatory for rune duty. Honored with the completed chain is sufficient; Revered removes the repeat Azshara collection trip.
