At a glance

Tailoring uses cloth dropped by humanoids to make cloth gear, bags and specialist cloth. It is a primary profession but has no required gathering partner. Enchanting is a common companion because crafted equipment can supply enchanting materials, provided its disenchant value justifies its cost.

Use the Forever beta route through 225 and its conditional Runecloth planning table. Follow the current learning and gray thresholds when choosing an upper pattern. This is public-source research, not our own game test.

Forever's public route currently reports no Apprentice level requirement. Learn each rank before its cap. Buy thread and dye from trade or Tailoring suppliers; the nearby trainer does not always have a supply vendor in the same starting-zone building.

The Forever route by skill range

A bolt is an intermediate item, not one piece of raw cloth. Linen uses 2 cloth per bolt, Wool 3, Silk 4, Mageweave 5 and Runecloth 5 in the route's source. Keep enough bolts for all later rows. Counts below are expected crafting actions and can vary with yellow or green skill-ups.

SkillCraft and approximate countMaterials or saved output
1-30About 30 Bolt of Linen Cloth60 Linen Cloth; save bolts
30-55About 28 Linen Belt28 saved bolts, 28 Coarse Thread
55-80About 45 Bolt of Woolen Cloth135 Wool Cloth; train Journeyman before crossing 75
80-95About 22 Woolen Cape22 Wool bolts, 22 Fine Thread
95-1005 Double-stitched Woolen Shoulders15 Wool bolts, 10 Fine Thread
100-120About 40 Bolt of Silk Cloth160 Silk Cloth; save bolts
120-125About 8 Double-stitched Woolen Shoulders24 Wool bolts, 16 Fine Thread
125-140About 20 Gloves of Meditation80 Wool bolts, 60 Fine Thread, 20 Elixir of Wisdom
140-150About 17 Bolt of Mageweave85 Mageweave Cloth; save bolts
150-17020 Crimson Silk Vest80 Silk bolts, 40 Red Dye, 40 Fine Thread
170-190About 24 Crimson Silk Pantaloons96 Silk bolts, 48 Red Dye, 48 Silken Thread
190-215About 38 Black Mageweave Gloves76 Mageweave bolts, 76 Heavy Silken Thread
215-225About 26 Mageweave Bag104 Mageweave bolts, 52 Silken Thread

The full table consumes 141 Wool bolts, 176 Silk bolts and 180 Mageweave bolts. Make the extra bolts required after their initial skill-up rows: 423 Wool Cloth, 704 Silk Cloth and 900 Mageweave Cloth cover those totals. You need only about 60 Linen Cloth for the displayed opening, with two bolts left after its 28 belts. The table also consumes 20 Elixirs of Wisdom, 148 Fine Thread, 100 Silken Thread, 76 Heavy Silken Thread, 28 Coarse Thread and 88 Red Dye. Add a buffer as actual skill-ups require; this excludes camp objects and optional gear.

Elixir of Wisdom is an Alchemy product, not a Tailoring trainer purchase. Obtain it before the 125-140 row. If Mageweave is unavailable, continuing Gloves of Meditation can bridge 140-150 at substantially greater Wool and elixir cost; do not buy that alternative in addition to the full Mageweave route. Later Mageweave gear still needs its own bolts.

Planning Forever 225-300

Current Forever recipe data and recipe tooltips establish a Runecloth planning path beyond 225. It depends on pattern access and has not been game-tested here. Colors below are the skill at which a recipe becomes yellow, green and gray; green crafts may fail to give a point, and gray crafts never give one.

RecipeLearn skill; yellow/green/grayReagents per craftPlanning use
Runecloth BeltTrainer learning gate unconfirmed; 225/240/2553 Bolt of Runecloth, 1 Rune ThreadBridge from 225 to the Gloves' 230 gate; already yellow
Runecloth Gloves230; 245/260/2754 Bolt of Runecloth, 4 Rugged Leather, 1 Rune ThreadObtain its bind-on-pickup pattern; useful toward 250
Runecloth Headband250; 265/280/2954 Bolt of Runecloth, 2 Ironweb Spider Silk, 1 Rune ThreadObtain its pattern; orange bridge toward Shoulders
Runecloth Shoulders260; 275/290/3057 Bolt of Runecloth, 2 Ironweb Spider Silk, 4 Rugged Leather, 1 Rune ThreadObtain its pattern; still awards points through 300

If Runecloth Belt is already learned, a possible sequence is Belts to 230, Gloves to 250, Headbands to 275 and Shoulders to 300. Current sources do not establish an early trainer learning gate for Belt; the profession overview still lists 255 despite the lower color thresholds. Check the actual trainer. If Belt is unavailable, the already learned Mageweave Bag remains non-gray until 235 in the current catalog and can bridge 225-230, with green crafts requiring extra attempts. Gloves become yellow at 245, Headbands at 265 and Shoulders become green at 290, so buy extra materials in small batches rather than treating 75 crafts as 75 points. Switch from Headband to Shoulders earlier if their current total cost per likely point is better. Each Runecloth bolt uses 5 raw Runecloth, so a Shoulder craft's seven bolts represent 35 cloth, not seven.

Qia in Everlook is the original Classic lead for Runecloth Gloves; its current Forever pattern binds on pickup. Confirm her current stock with the actual Tailor. Headband and Shoulder patterns need separate acquisition and cannot be assumed to come from Qia or the Artisan trainer. If those patterns are unavailable, obtain another currently available recipe that remains yellow or green at your skill; a bag or belt recipe that has already turned gray cannot finish the route.

These costs are per crafting action. The table assumes neither extra armor output nor extra skill points from it. Obtain Artisan, the required patterns and a realistic supply of Ironweb Spider Silk before committing to this path.

Recipes worth buying or farming

Early reagent storage. Linen Reagent Bag requires Tailoring 5. Current vendor records list its tradeable pattern at Valdaron in Auberdine, Darkshore for Alliance, and Wrahk at the Crossroads, Barrens for Horde. It crafts a six-slot reagent bag using 6 Bolt of Linen Cloth and 6 Coarse Thread per action: 12 raw Linen Cloth before thread. This is an optional useful craft, excluded from the leveling budget. The pattern and finished bag have different binding rules: the pattern is tradeable, while the bag binds when equipped.

Later raid supply. Current Pattern: Cindercloth Cloak requires Tailoring 230. Each cloak uses 5 Bolt of Runecloth, 1 Essence of Fire and 1 Rune Thread; those five bolts represent 25 raw Runecloth. It is also a finished input for the Leatherworker's Onyxia Scale Cloak. Pattern acquisition and the high-level raid unlock remain separate checks; arrange the supply with the Leatherworker rather than assuming raw Runecloth alone completes that order.

The inherited vendor lead is Qia in Everlook for Pattern: Runecloth Bag, Pattern: Runecloth Gloves and Pattern: Mooncloth. Confirm current Forever stock and binding before the trip. Bag and glove stock may be empty. Buy the needed pattern before spending all your gold on Runecloth; a bag step also needs Rugged Leather. If a pattern is unavailable, choose an obtainable recipe whose current learning and gray thresholds cover your skill. The planning table above gives several options.

The inherited Mooncloth recipe uses two Felcloth, a moonwell and a four-day cooldown. Check its current Forever cost and cooldown before saving for bags or gear. No Tailoring specialization choice is established by the current route.

Conditional later reputation goals include Argent Dawn healing pieces, Cenarion Circle resistance and herb-bag patterns, Thorium Brotherhood Flarecore, Timbermaw patterns and Zandalar Bloodvine. Each recipe has its own reputation and skill requirement. Check release phase and vendor stock before assigning it to a launch shopping list. Bloodvine's tailoring-dependent set bonus is distinct from merely being able to wear the pieces.

An advanced reagent bag target

The current Mooncloth Reagent Bag is an 18-slot reagent bag, with a bind-on-pickup pattern requiring Tailoring 255 and Barkskin Burrow Honored. The database lists Dala Fairmaw in Mount Hyjal as the vendor; confirm access, currency and stock before farming. This is a later plan above the level-30 beta's Artisan gate, not a presently tested shopping trip.

Each craft uses 4 Bolt of Runecloth, 1 Mooncloth, 1 Rune Thread, 10 Viridian Dye, 1 Magenta Dye and 1 Cerulean Dye. The finished bag binds on equip, so its binding differs from the pattern. The dyes are Alchemy products rather than ordinary trade-vendor dye. The new recipe guide connects their exact current bills and acquisition checks.

Forever checks and tips

Blizzard confirms the Faction Banner's Spirit buff and advanced dungeon blueprint drops. Use the camping guide for the camp-object system and verify each station recipe's access in the current client.

Use the conditional Forever planning table for the current Runecloth recipe gates. Buy the next batch only after obtaining its pattern. Check raw cloth versus bolt quantity, saved intermediates, potion supplies for Gloves of Meditation, rank gate and pattern binding before a crafting session.

In Forever, the October 16 public data lists Working Overtime as an increase to tradeskill skill-up chance. That can change expected material use on yellow or green recipes; it does not mean an exact 20% reduction in every shopping list. The route budgets do not assume that perk. Bartering discounts vendor items under its current rules, not training or repairs, so do not subtract it from every profession expense.
