At a glance
Druid can tank in Bear Form, deal melee damage in Cat Form, cast ranged damage through Balance or heal through Restoration. Forms change your abilities; gear and talents still decide how well each role works. A healing set does not become a tanking set merely because you enter Bear Form.
Build examples use beta build 1.60.1.70425, snapshot 2026-10-16. This is public-source research, not an in-game test. The current beta cap is 30; level-60 allocations are higher-level plans. Without the Legacy Talented perk, class points begin at level 10. Dual Specialization unlocks at level 40. Visit a major-city class trainer to change talents.
Alliance Druids are Night Elf or Skyborne; Horde Druids are Tauren or Skyborne. Check each race's current abilities and forms before choosing.
Leveling build
Starting plan. Heart of the Wild is available earlier, Feral Swiftness works indoors, and Feral Charge has a Cat version. Shifting Power and Primal Bite are separate 16-point Cat and Bear choices; Leader of the Pack moves to 21 talent points and Berserk becomes the deep-Feral capstone. Naturalist in Restoration supports damage, but investing in it early delays the next Feral milestone. Choose that tradeoff deliberately.
- Before Cat Form, use spells and Bear attacks appropriate to the enemy rather than trying to level entirely with a weak melee weapon in caster form.
- In Cat Form, use a suitable opener, build combo points and choose a finisher based on remaining enemy health. A bleed pays off only if the target lives long enough.
- Shift out to heal between pulls, then return to the correct form. Leave enough mana for an emergency heal or a new form instead of spending everything on an extra damage spell.
- Use Bear Form for dangerous melee pressure and multiple enemies. Armor does not prevent spell damage, so use control or retreat against a bad caster pull.
- Keep a healing set for dungeon healing and a tank set for Bear duty. Switching equipment during combat is restricted; change armor before the pull.
Forever grants Revive, an out-of-combat resurrection, at level 12; Nature's Grasp becomes baseline at level 10 and Omen of Clarity at level 20.
Forms and their class quests
Bear Form starts at level 10 through its class quest. Cat Form requires its level-20 class quest chain; Travel Form is learned at level 30; Travel Form still requires the outdoors. Dire Bear Form is learned at level 40, above the current beta cap. Talented's earlier class points do not lower these spell-learning levels.
Bear Form at level 10
Night Elf and Tauren: take Heeding the Call to Mathrengyl Bearwalker in Darnassus or Turak Runetotem in Thunder Bluff. Use the quest's Teleport: Moonglade lead to speak with Dendrite in Nighthaven. Speak to the Great Bear Spirit in northwestern Moonglade, return to Dendrite and follow the capital-return stage into Body and Heart.
- Night Elf: use the supplied Cenarion Moondust on the Moonkin Stone near Auberdine, face Lunaclaw and return to Mathrengyl in Darnassus.
- Tauren: use the supplied Cenarion Lunardust on the Moonkin Stone between Mulgore and the Barrens, face Lunaclaw and return to Turak in Thunder Bluff.
The inherited completion step is to speak with Lunaclaw's Spirit after the fight and finish its dialogue. Confirm Body and Heart's encounter credit before leaving the stone, then finish the teaching turn-in and check Bear Form in your spellbook. These are the routes retained by the current quest records; the supplied powder and racial stone are not interchangeable with the Skyborne trial.
For the documented Valanaar route, start The Great Ursera Spirit with Lotheluum Starbreeze in Valanaar, near the pond at about 64,75. Speak to Urs'endris by the falls northeast of town, about 70,62. Take Strength and Mercy, kill Ur'endra in the Shen'dar Highlands and return to Urs'endris. Recorded beta gameplay shows the cave near 54,65 and the reward of Bear Form, Growl and Maul. Current quest records confirm the two objectives. Prepare healing mana before entering the cave, and put the new form and its attacks on usable bindings after the turn-in.
Windshaper eligibility for this same quest is not established by the checked objective record; confirm the offered trainer lead before following it. Use the matching racial chain above; travelling to the Skyborne NPC is not a substitute for the appropriate quest.
Cat Form at level 20
Take the Great Cat Spirit introduction from your own Druid trainer and speak to Dendrite Starblaze in Nighthaven, Moonglade. Use Teleport: Moonglade, available from level 10, for the trip; check your spellbook and trainer if it is missing. Current Night Elf and Tauren leads come from Darnassus and Thunder Bluff. Follow your offered Skyborne introduction rather than choosing a capital from another race's quest record.
- Meet the Great Cat Spirit in southern Moonglade. For the Windborne Cat version, find the Avatar of Saeyleenan south of the twin bridges. Accept the actual relic stage before entering the den.
- In Stormrage Barrow Den east of the spirit, collect the Relic of the Fang, Relic of the Claw and Relic of the Silent Shadow. The current quest explicitly supplies a statue at the entrance granting temporary stealth past the powerful enraged spirits. Use that trial tool and watch its duration instead of treating the guardians as an ordinary level-20 kill objective.
- Return all three relics to the spirit, then complete the Blessings follow-up with Dendrite. Finish the return stage offered by your chain: current To Darnassus with Mathrengyl Bearwalker and To Thunder Bluff with Turak Runetotem explicitly teach Cat Form. A Skyborne should follow the actual faction/variant return lead, not infer an opposing-capital destination from a similar quest page.
- Check that Cat Form is in your spellbook and train the available Cat attacks before continuing the Feral plan. Merely reaching level 20 or collecting the relics does not establish that the teaching stage is complete.
Also follow your trainer's separate class-quest leads for Cure Poison at level 14 and Aquatic Form at level 16. Check the actual learned spell before promising that utility to a group.
Endgame builds by role
Forever Bear. Take the Bear path through Primal Bite, Blood Frenzy, Natural Reaction and Berserk, with Thick Hide and appropriate survival talents. Primal Bite is the new Bear attack. Feral Instinct now supports Swipe rather than supplying its old Bear-threat bonus. Defense gear interacts with the redesigned Thick Hide.
Use Faerie Fire as a ranged Bear threat opener and maintain assigned armor and attack-power debuffs. Use Primal Bite and Lacerate for single-target threat, and Swipe when its three-target coverage is useful. Lacerate is learned at level 42 and stacks to five; build and refresh it on a durable target. Use Maul when Rage allows without starving the next important ability. Position the target away from the group, use Growl to recover an enemy and follow it with real threat. Use Barkskin and Frenzied Regeneration before the next dangerous damage window; reserve Rage for the regeneration conversion.
Forever Cat. Take Shifting Power and its supporting talents, improved builders, Blood Frenzy, Rend and Tear and Berserk as the chosen build allows. Maintain relevant bleeds on a durable target and use Shred from behind when practical, with Claw when positioning prevents it. Spend combo points on the appropriate bleed or direct finisher, avoid capping Energy and use Shifting Power when the Energy will be spent. It costs mana; exhausting the mana bar can remove your ability to recover or shift.
With Furor, Cat Energy can be retained through a Bear shift, but Bear and Dire Bear still prevent Energy regeneration. Spending time in Bear does not refill Cat Energy. Shifting Power is the separate mana-to-Energy action; free Faerie Fire in a Feral form cannot trigger Omen of Clarity.
Berserk lasts 15 seconds and grants fear immunity. In Bear, it removes Primal Bite's cooldown and lets that attack hit up to three targets, so keep it away from crowd control. In Cat, it increases combo-point builders' critical-strike chance by 100%; spend the resulting points before another builder would waste them.
Forever Restoration. Gift of the Earthmother, Swiftmend at 16 talent points, improved Spirit regeneration and Wild Growth at 31 points add new tools. Keep Rejuvenation or Regrowth where damage will continue, use Swiftmend for a rapid response, Healing Touch for appropriate direct healing, and Wild Growth when several members of the selected party need healing. Wild Growth targets one party within a raid, not every raid member at once. Its high mana cost means using it on one lightly injured player can be wasteful.
Forever Balance. Nature's Splendor and Insect Swarm support periodic damage, while Eclipse links Wrath and Starfire. Maintain Moonfire and Insect Swarm when duration permits, use Wrath to establish Eclipse charges, then spend them on the faster Starfire casts. Use the cheap Wrath option when mana pressure makes the heavier sequence unsustainable. Moonkin Aura now increases spell critical-strike chance raid-wide, while Leader of the Pack increases melee and ranged critical-strike chance raid-wide. Assign these different bonuses by damage type and stay within their range.
Current Forever allocations
Choose a role below and open its checkpoint or full plan in the current Druid calculator. Level-30 checkpoints spend 21 points; level-60 plans spend 51. The lists show every allocated rank.
These checkpoints and level ranges assume zero ranks in the Legacy Talented perk. Talented makes points available earlier, but the total remains capped at 51. Select your actual Talented rank in the calculator when using an earlier checkpoint. Follow the listed order; each number is additional points in that step, and omitted talents have zero points.

What to look for on gear
Bear wants Armor, Stamina, useful avoidance and reliable threat. Cat wants weapon contribution under the current rules, Strength, Agility, Attack Power, hit and critical strike. Restoration wants healing power, Intellect, Spirit and mana regeneration. Balance wants spell damage, applicable hit and enough mana to maintain its spell sequence. Keep the sets separate.
Bear and Cat autoattack damage and weapon-damage abilities use the equipped weapon's DPS, with the form's attack speed. Weapon enchantments and procs also work in form. This is a major gearing change, not a small stat adjustment.
Nature's Reach at two ranks supplies 4% hit alongside increased Balance spell range in the current tree. Count it only when allocated, and compare form rules and target level when choosing gear. Merged item stats do not establish identical final thresholds for melee attacks and spells. Keep enough health and mitigation for the assigned role instead of trading survival for an unverified inherited cap.
Druids cannot block or parry in Bear Form. Defense and dodge do not turn a Bear into a shield tank or automatically prevent every crushing blow. Use an encounter-appropriate survival set and avoid leaving Bear Form while being actively hit merely to cast an optional support spell.
Current dungeon examples. Slitherwrap Girdle from Mana Devourer in City of Dalaran requires 28 and supplies 9 Agility with 6 Stamina for a Feral comparison. Runemender's Seal from Arcane Anomaly requires 27 and offers 7 Spirit, 4 Stamina and up to 9 healing with 3 spell damage for a healing set. For Balance, Raptor's Gaze from Shadetooth in Excavation Site requires 26, with 4 Intellect, 4 Stamina and up to 8 damage/healing. It is an off-hand, so compare it together with a one-handed weapon rather than equipping it alongside a staff.
Consumables, utility and PvP
Bring healing and mana potions, bandages, food and the current reagents for Rebirth and group buffs. Most potions can be used in form, including Rage potions, while most Engineering bombs still have restrictions. Check the actual item rather than assuming every device works in Cat or Bear Form.
Current training gates are Cure Poison at level 14, Hibernate at level 18, Rebirth at level 20 and Remove Curse at level 24. Hibernate sleeps one Beast or Dragonkin per Druid and breaks on damage; coordinate the marked target and pull timing with the tank. Innervate is learned at level 40, above the current beta cap; do not promise it for a level-30 healer. Rebirth is distinct from the out-of-combat Revive learned at level 12.
Assign Innervate and Rebirth targets before an important fight. Use Remove Curse and Abolish Poison promptly when assigned. Abolish Poison starts at level 26 and repeats its poison-removal attempts for eight seconds; avoid applying it when the encounter requires a player to retain a poison. Root where it will help the group and watch for damage breaking it; Forever permits Entangling Roots indoors. Keep Mark of the Wild active without spending points on its removed improvement talent in Forever.
In PvP, use form changes to manage movement and pressure, travel safely between engagements and heal while you have space. A Feral build can peel or briefly defend in Bear Form; a healer should not abandon an ally to chase damage. Control and line of sight matter more than repeatedly shifting with an empty mana bar.
Common mistakes
Do not assume a form change equips the correct armor, choose a weapon from an unrelated form or role ranking, spend all mana on Cat resource generation before an emergency, or promise the group an instant resurrection while Rebirth is unavailable. Check your current role, equipped set, weapon, form abilities, resurrection reagents and assigned utility before pulling.
