Preparation

At a glance

WoW: Forever, five players. Location: Lushwater Oasis, southwest of the Crossroads in the Barrens. The 17-27 band covers a broad visit window; plan a first full clear around 20-23 because Verdan and the final event are harder than the entrance. Allow about 60-90 minutes, with extra time for the outer caves and quest collection.

Inside the skull-shaped cave mouth, take the first right and then left into shallow water. Follow the curving tunnel to the larger pool-and-plants cavern, then take the descending path on the right to the instance portal. Check Mad Magglish's side alcoves before zoning in if needed. Horde approaches from the Crossroads; Alliance can take the Booty Bay boat to Ratchet or travel south from Ashenvale, avoiding Horde guards.

Current Forever quest lists retain the Fang leaders, Naralex event and faction objectives below. Route tactics use inherited Classic mechanics where a Forever change is unconfirmed; item stats and class tools can differ. This is public-source research, not an in-game test.

Quests to pick up first

  • Leaders of the Fang, Horde: begin with Tonga Runetotem's The Forgotten Pools in the Crossroads and follow the oasis investigations through the Thunder Bluff referrals. Nara Wildmane on Elder Rise offers the final four-gem quest. Have that stage accepted before the run; the initial oasis quest does not award boss-gem credit.
  • Serpentbloom, Horde: Apothecary Zamah in the cave beneath Thunder Bluff's Spirit Rise wants 10 Serpentbloom. Pick the plants while travelling through the caves. Herbalism is not required, and each player must check their own count.
  • Deviate Hides, both factions: Nalpak wants 20 hides from deviate creatures inside or outside the instance. He and Ebru are in a cave in the skull's upper eye, reached by climbing around the hill above the entrance.
  • Deviate Eradication, both factions: Ebru, beside Nalpak, wants 7 each of Deviate Ravagers, Vipers, Shamblers and Dreadfangs inside the instance. Check the four separate counters rather than assuming every raptor counts.
  • Smart Drinks, both factions: complete Raptor Horns for Mebok Mizzyrix in Ratchet, then accept the follow-up for 6 Wailing Essence from ectoplasms.
  • Trouble at the Docks, both factions: Crane Operator Bigglefuzz in Ratchet wants the 99-Year-Old Port from Mad Magglish in the outer caves. He has several hiding places and is not an instance boss or a rare you should expect to find on the main inner route.
  • The Glowing Shard, both factions: inspect the Glowing Shard after Mutanus. Speak to Sputtervalve in Ratchet, then find Falla Sagewind above the caverns. Her In Nightmares follow-up takes Horde to Thunder Bluff and Alliance to Darnassus. Everyone who wants the item-start quest must loot their own shard.

The run

Agree on the route before pulling: first chamber, west branch for Cobrahn, return to the junction, east branch for Pythas and Serpentis, then back to the entrance for Naralex's event. The four Fang leaders must die in the same instance before the event opens. No one needs the Horde quest or its gems to unlock Mutanus.

  1. Lady Anacondra: check the spawn positions around the first large chamber. Interrupt Healing Touch and the sleep cast when possible. If the healer is asleep, another player removes the magic sleep or covers healing. Kill nearby druids first so several heals and sleeps do not overlap.
  2. Kresh, optional: the neutral turtle patrols the lower water area. Pull him only when the group wants his shield; he is not one of the four event requirements.
  3. Lord Cobrahn, west branch: climb the winding path and clear a safe spot at its end. Interrupt his heals and sleep, remove poison if available, and keep healing after he changes into a snake at low health. Return along the cleared path to the central junction.
  4. Lord Pythas, east branch: expect nearby druid or plant adds. Control one and interrupt the druid heals; do not drag the fight forward through the next packs. Keep ranged clear of his close-range damage.
  5. Skum, optional: clear a safe place to fight and spread ranged players for Chain Lightning. He is not needed for the Naralex event.
  6. Lord Serpentis: finish the last Fang leader on the upper eastern route, again prioritising Healing Touch and sleep. Check the Horde players' four gem counters now, before the return trip.
  7. Verdan the Everliving, optional for Mutanus: he hits much harder than the earlier bosses and uses an area root. Top up the tank, drink before pulling, and keep a defensive cooldown ready. Clear him for his loot or a convenient route back, but do not treat him as a harmless extra pack.
  8. Disciple of Naralex and Mutanus: return to the Disciple near the entrance after all four leaders are dead. Talk to him to start the escort and follow him as a group. Clear any remaining enemies along his route before advancing. At Naralex, protect the Disciple through the snake and ectoplasm waves, drink during genuine pauses, then tank Mutanus away from the healer. His sleep can remove a party member and his nearby damage can stun. Assign sleep removal and backup healing before the event begins.

Deviate Faerie Dragon, an optional rare on the eastern route, can drop Firebelcher or Feyscale Cloak. Check the side area only when it is safe and the group wants the loot; the rare is not needed to wake Naralex.

For the ravine jump on the eastern route, stop and let one player show the landing. Dismiss pets before taking a drop or jump that would make them run through uncleared packs. A missed jump needs a regroup, not a solo run through live enemies.

Loot worth staying for

Current Forever tables include the familiar targets and the new utility items below. Compare the actual item window before choosing an upgrade.

  • Lady Anacondra: Serpent's Shoulders and the new Snake Eye Kaleidoscope neck.
  • Lord Cobrahn: Robe of the Moccasin and Cobrahn's Grasp.
  • Lord Pythas: Stinging Viper, Armor of the Fang and Slither Cord, whose use escapes immobilizing effects.
  • Kresh: Kresh's Back or the more common Worn Turtle Shell Shield; Cloak of Hermitic Bliss currently gives 33% swim speed but reduces ground movement by 25%, so account for the trade-off before wearing it on the return route.
  • Skum: Glowing Lizardscale Cloak, Tail Spike and Skum's Bucket, a caster off-hand with a seated mana-restoration use. Use it seated between fights to recover mana.
  • Lord Serpentis: Venomstrike, an early bow.
  • Verdan: Living Root, Seedcloud Buckler and Sporid Cape.
  • Mutanus: Deep Fathom Ring and Mutant Scale Breastplate.
  • Leaders of the Fang: Crescent Staff or Wingblade after all four gems are returned to Nara Wildmane.

Tips

  • Stop fleeing raptors before they call nearby packs. Pull them away from the next group instead of chasing them into it.
  • Evolving Ectoplasms can resist particular damage schools. Change your damage type when the combat log shows immunity rather than spending a full mana bar on the same spell.
  • Assign a Priest with Dispel Magic or a Shaman with Tremor Totem, both learned at 18 in current Forever data, to help clear sleep. Keep Tremor active and the party in range before sleep lands. Have the tools trained and arrange backup healing before the escort; a disabled healer needs immediate cover.
  • Hides and plants may not finish for every player in one clear. Check counts while still in the relevant area and agree whether to farm more instead of discovering missing objectives after leaving.
