At a glance
Forever-only dungeon, group of five. Blizzard's announced band is 13-18; a first party around 15-18 has more room for mistakes than five characters at the bottom of it. Location: Old Ironforge beneath the High Seat. Allow roughly 30-45 minutes for a first quest clear, longer if you need the Dun Morogh prerequisite trip.
From the Great Forge, approach the High Seat and take the side stairs/corridor down into Old Ironforge. Follow the descending passage to the bridge and dungeon portal. Thom Filch and Afadra Dunwall are on the approach, so stop for their quests before crossing. Stay on the bridge; the lava below is not a shortcut.
The route, tactics and named drops below are reported from the current Forever beta by public guide sources checked on 17 October. They are not an in-game test by GetWoWGuides. Beta tuning and rewards may change.
Quests to pick up first
Prepare the faction quests below on Alliance. Current primary quest records mark The Restless Dead as Alliance and An Ancient Grudge as neutral. Horde should check the Ghostly Attendant's current interaction and plan the hostile Ironforge approach before organising a trip; sharing does not bypass a faction restriction.
- Old Ironforge Incursion: first loot the Dark Iron Map from Dark Iron Spies at Ironband's Compound in southeastern Dun Morogh. Turn its Underground Map quest in to Earthseer Farsen above Gol'Bolar Quarry, around 64.8, 58.4, then accept the dungeon follow-up. Kill Durgen Dirgehammer, loot his head and deliver it to King Magni at the High Seat. Each player needs the proper accepted stage before the boss; a party share is not a substitute for missing prerequisites.
- Important Heirlooms: Thom Filch by the entrance bridge wants 8 Dwarven Heirlooms from urns and chests inside. Inspect the containers while the room is clear and check every quest holder's count before leaving.
- The Restless Dead: Afadra Dunwall above the entrance wants 15 Enraged Apparitions, 10 Tormented Souls and Faldrim Anvilmar put to rest. Check all three objectives; the first boss alone does not complete the kill list.
- An Ancient Grudge: accept from the Ghostly Attendant inside the first hall before engaging Faldrim. Return to the attendant after the kill rather than walking straight into the Dark Iron section.
- The Treaty of Understanding: inspect the tablet in the final vault after the last boss, take its quest item and bring it to King Magni. It cannot be picked up in advance in Ironforge.
Published quest requirements begin at 9 for Old Ironforge Incursion and The Treaty of Understanding, and 10 for Important Heirlooms, The Restless Dead and An Ancient Grudge. Check the accepted stage with each NPC before assembling the group; an early quest pickup does not make a level-10 party ready for the full dungeon.
The run
Tombs and Faldrim
Clear the opening apparition/soul packs in order and watch the first boss's patrol. Accept An Ancient Grudge before pulling him, and collect heirlooms from safe containers as you go.
Faldrim Anvilmar patrols the tomb area. Clear the surrounding ghosts, wait for him to reach cleared ground and interrupt Mind Blast where possible. Remove Anvilmar's Curse if your party has curse removal. The healer stays in range while the tank holds him away from any uncleared tomb pack. Check both boss quests after he dies.
Dark Iron corridor and Magmatus
Pull Dark Iron Summoners around a corner and stop their Fireball or Fiery Assistant summon. Engineers throw bombs at a targeted position, so step clear of the landing instead of standing together. Looters apply poison and hit hard; kill or control them before letting several attack the tank.
Magmatus, the fire elemental: clear the patrolling summoner first, then kill or control the summoner accompanying the boss. The tank keeps Magmatus away from the party, ranged stays clear of Fire Nova, and the healer covers Combust on its target. Do not pull him with the whole corridor still alive.
Plunder
Clear a corner of the guardian hallway and pull Plunder back there. The tank uses a wall behind them for Knock Away; the party stands where a knockback cannot send anyone into the next pack. Recover before advancing to the final Dark Iron group.
Durgen Dirgehammer
Clear the surrounding Looters and leave safe ground for fear. The approach's mixed pack can include a Summoner, Looter and Lesser Stone Golem: control the caster if possible, kill the uncontrolled dangerous enemy and keep the golem off the healer. Do not rely on outrunning a golem after a failed pull.
Durgen comes with two Lesser Stone Golems. Start with full mana, have the tank gather all three, and use available control to reduce incoming damage. Concentrate damage on Durgen while maintaining control of the golems, then finish them; switch to an add first if the tank cannot survive all three. His fear makes nearby uncleared enemies a major risk, and Rend keeps damaging the tank during interruptions to healing. Use fear protection or personal fear breaks if available and save a tank defensive for a bad fear window.
After the fight, loot Durgen's Head, inspect the treaty tablet and check heirloom/ghost counts before leaving. Neither the treaty nor the head is awarded simply by seeing the boss die.
Loot worth staying for
The current beta lists these examples; check the live item and your trained weapon skills before rolling.
- Faldrim: Aetherwisp Bracers, Spiritwraith Drape and Ephemeral Choker.
- Magmatus: Fang of Magmatus, Flamefist Grips and Kindlegem Girdle.
- Plunder: Golemheart Stave, Golemguard Chest and Treads of the Protector Golem.
- Durgen: Durgen's Crescent Axe, Direhammer Leggings and Robes of the Disgraced Thane.
- Old Ironforge Incursion: reported choices include Calibrated Blunderbuss, Ironforge Greathammer and Deepblaze.
- Important Heirlooms: Dwarven Tome or Tomb Robber's Gloves; compare their current stats in the reward window.
Tips
- Do the Dark Iron Map/Farsen step before the dungeon group assembles. A missing prerequisite is a separate Dun Morogh trip, not something the final boss fixes.
- A curse remover, poison cure, interrupt and suitable crowd control help the mixed trash. No particular class composition is mandatory.
- Count apparitions, souls and heirlooms before passing out of the tombs. If someone still needs kills, agree on the detour before everyone reaches Durgen.
- Return the head and treaty to Magni after the run, and complete the two approach-NPC turn-ins before leaving Ironforge.
