Preparation

At a glance

WoW: Forever, five players. Location: the lowest part of Blackrock Mountain, approached from Searing Gorge or Burning Steppes. The inherited route crosses a chain to the central rock, descends past the tomb and follows the Grinding Quarry to the portal. Take this lower route for BRD.

BRD is a city with several useful short runs. Around 52-55, choose prison, arena or key objectives; for a first Emperor clear, aim closer to 57-60. Allow 2-3 hours or more for a broad quest clear. A 30-minute arena farm and an Emperor run are different group commitments.

This is a provisional high-level Forever planning guide. The detailed key, quest and event route comes from Classic evidence; current Forever access, quest availability, tuning and loot are not established here. Check those requirements before organising a future run. Verification is from public sources, not an in-game clear.

Quests to pick up first

Keys and shared objectives

  • Dark Iron Legacy, inherited standard-ruleset pickup: speak to Franclorn Forgewright's ghost at the central tomb outside the instance while in ghost form. Finish his first conversation and accept the follow-up that asks for Ironfel. Resurrect before entering. Kill Fineous Darkvire inside, loot Ironfel and place it at Franclorn's monument in the Shrine of Thaurissan to receive the Shadowforge Key. The boss drop alone is not the finished key. On Hardcore, do not use a death-based pickup. A Forever living-character alternative is unconfirmed here; an existing party key holder is an option only if the current gate admits the whole party.
  • Attunement to the Core: from level 55 in Classic, take it from Lothos Riftwaker in Blackrock Mountain. Inside BRD, collect the Core Fragment beside the Molten Core portal after the Seven, then return to Lothos. This unlocks his raid shortcut; entering the raid is not part of a five-player dungeon clear.
  • The Heart of the Mountain: Maxwort Uberglint at Flame Crest in Burning Steppes sends you to the Vault. Bring a group total of 12 Relic Coffer Keys for the ordinary coffers. The Dark Coffer uses a separate Dark Keeper Key and clue portrait; do not confuse it with the Heart of the Mountain objective.
  • Ribbly Screwspigot: Yuka Screwspigot at Flame Crest wants Ribbly's head from the Grim Guzzler. Earlier breadcrumbs can be collected outside BRD.
  • A Taste of Flame: Cyrus Therepentous in eastern Burning Steppes has a multi-stage chain. Bring the Altered Black Dragonflight Molt on the Bael'Gar stage and use it on his corpse for the essence. A kill without the item does not finish it.
  • The Love Potion, Mistress Nagmara in the Grim Guzzler: her later door-opening shortcut requires a separate outside trip. Bring 4 Gromsblood, collect 10 Giant Silver Veins from Azshara's giants, and fill Nagmara's Vial at the high pool in Golakka Hot Springs, Un'Goro. Return these to her on a later visit; the ale method below works without this quest.

Alliance

  • Marshal Windsor: advance the Burning Steppes chain from Dragonkin Menace, through the Lakeshire and capital conversations, until Marshal Maxwell at Morgan's Vigil sends you into the prison. After finding Windsor, take Abandoned Hope back to Maxwell. Only then can the Crumpled Up Note drop on a later BRD visit, opening A Shred of Hope for lost information from Angerforge and Argelmach, followed by Jail Break!. Do not promise the whole Onyxia chain in one first run.
  • The Fate of the Kingdom: complete Royal Historian Archesonus's The Smoldering Ruins of Thaurissan chain in Ironforge, visit Kharan Mighthammer in the prison, return to King Magni, and accept the Emperor stage. Moira must survive.
  • Overmaster Pyron / Incendius!, Jalinda Sprig at Morgan's Vigil: kill Pyron outside, turn in and accept Incendius before the inside kill.
  • Take Hurley Blackbreath from Ragnar Thunderbrew in Kharanos before arranging the tavern event.
  • For The Good Stuff, collect 20 Dark Iron Fanny Packs from Dark Iron dwarves and return them to Oralius. Check this counter before leaving the city; a short arena run may not supply every collector.

Horde

  • Disharmony of Flame / Disharmony of Fire, Thunderheart in Kargath: kill Pyron outside, turn in, then accept the Incendius objective. Finishing the opening stage also opens other Kargath dungeon quests.
  • Commander Gor'shak, Galamav the Marksman in Kargath: find him in the prison and protect him during the escape attempt. Follow the prison conversations and Thrall's later stages to The Royal Rescue, Horde's Emperor objective. Moira must survive this version too.
  • KILL ON SIGHT quests from Kargath's wanted notice lead through distinct kill lists and later steps to Operation: Death to Angerforge. Check the active list; early prison dwarves do not satisfy every later objective.
  • The Last Element and Lost Thunderbrew Recipe, Vivian Lagrave in Kargath, add elemental and Hurley objectives. The Rise of the Machines continues through Lotwil Veriatus east of Kargath and needs the correct Argelmach-stage quest.

Choose the run before entering

  • Prison / Windsor / Gor'shak: Detention Block, Gerstahn, required cells and any escort. Add the arena only if agreed.
  • First Shadowforge Key: Ring of Law, upper arena and Domicile route, Fineous, then back to the Shrine of Thaurissan for the monument.
  • Angerforge / Argelmach: use the Shadowforge Key shortcut and turn the Shadowforge Lock mechanism, then clear the two bosses. A key holder saves the long first-key route.
  • Emperor / Molten Core attunement: key shortcut, workshop route, Grim Guzzler, Flamelash, Seven, optional Core Fragment detour, Lyceum, Magmus and throne room.

The run

Lower city and first-key route

  1. Lord Roccor, optional patrol: pull him into cleared space and keep ranged away from his nearby damage. Do not chase him through a prison pack.
  2. High Interrogator Gerstahn, prison: clear her room's enemies and control loose guards. Prioritise interrupts on Mana Burn. Psychic Scream is instant: clear safe fear paths and use available fear protection or breaks instead of relying on a late interrupt. Loot the Prison Cell Key for the cells. Appropriate lockpicking can substitute for cell access, but it does not award the Shadowforge Key.
  3. Houndmaster Grebmar, optional dog area: clear dogs carefully and keep the healer out of close-range interrupts. Take this branch only if the group needs its loot or objectives.
  4. Ring of Law: get everyone into the arena before triggering the centre. Kill the successive waves and random arena boss. Interrupt caster bosses, move out of dangerous ground effects and keep ranged clear of melee cleaves. Complete the event to use the upper route safely.
  5. Pyromancer Loregrain, optional near the shrine: clear his companions and stop fire casts. The monument needed for Dark Iron Legacy is in this shrine area, not at the instance entrance.
  6. Fineous Darkvire: take the upper arena/Domicile route toward the Hall of Crafting, clearing golems and waiting for his patrol to reach cleared ground. Interrupt his heals, loot Ironfel and return to the monument for the key.
  7. Vault, optional: clear Warder Stilgiss and Verek. Opening all ordinary coffers activates the final guards, including Watchman Doomgrip; gather them before looting the Heart of the Mountain compartment. The Dark Keeper portrait and Dark Coffer are a separate side task.
  8. Bael'Gar, optional highway end: avoid his fiery summoning burst and kill the spawned adds. Use the molt on his corpse if doing A Taste of Flame.
  9. Lord Incendius, Black Anvil: clear the approach, keep the tank away from the lava edge and maintain healing through fire damage and knockback. Loot his quest tablet. The Black Anvil is a crafting location, not the Black Forge used to smelt Dark Iron.

For Jail Break!, clear the Detention Block patrols and Windsor's equipment room before starting the escort. Leave the other prisoners' cell interactions until Windsor reaches them, follow his pauses and talk when required. Every quest holder stays close through the final completion; running ahead or leaving for a turn-in can lose escort credit.

Upper city and tavern

  1. Use the key doors near the entrance and activate the large Shadowforge Lock mechanism in the garrison. This opens the route toward the upper city; simply carrying the key does not move the bridge mechanism.
  2. General Angerforge: clear his room, kill the initial guards and gather reinforcements when his health falls. Interrupt the healers among them. Loot the lost-information item if on Windsor's quest.
  3. Golem Lord Argelmach: clear technicians from the workshop before the pull and control one of his golems if possible. Keep the golems off the healer and spread ranged players for Chain Lightning. An offensive magic dispel can remove Lightning Shield. Finish the linked group without bringing the whole workshop, and loot Windsor's second information item if eligible.
  4. Grim Guzzler: the patrons start neutral. Avoid area damage, theft or unsolicited conversations until the group agrees on an event. Destroying the three Thunderbrew Lager Kegs summons Hurley Blackbreath and his companions; speaking to Ribbly starts his fight. Pull them into a cleared side room.
  5. For a simple back-door method, buy 6 Dark Iron Ale Mugs from Plugger Spazzring and complete Private Rocknot's repeatable ale hand-in three times. Let the event play out, then defeat Phalanx when he becomes hostile. A player who has completed The Love Potion can instead ask Mistress Nagmara to leave with Rocknot and open the door. Do not kill Plugger just to leave unless the group deliberately wants his separate fight and the hostile tavern consequences.

The Emperor route

  1. Ambassador Flamelash: kill the Burning Spirits before they reach and strengthen him. Keep area damage controlled so the tank retains the boss and the healer stays free.
  2. Panzor the Invincible, optional rare in the foundry: clear a safe spot if present. He is not a gate to the next event.
  3. The Seven, Summoners' Tomb: finish any conversations before starting Doom'rel's event. A 230-skill Miner can speak to Gloom'rel, give the Spectral Chalice 10 Truesilver Bars, 20 Gold Bars and 2 Star Rubies, then speak to Gloom'rel again to learn Dark Iron smelting. The dwarves activate in sequence; kill each quickly, interrupt healers/casters and pick up any overlap. Agree on loot allocation before opening the Chest of the Seven: Classic does not prompt a normal loot roll for it. Continue after the event is complete.
  4. Core Fragment, optional attunement detour: after the Seven, take the lava-side branch toward the Molten Core portal and collect the fragment beside it. Return to the dungeon route. Do not send an unprotected player swimming through lava as the default plan.
  5. Lyceum: move as one party through the rapidly replenishing groups. Find and kill Shadowforge Flame Keepers, loot their Shadowforge Torches, and use a torch on each of the two braziers. The torches have limited duration and each brazier needs its own use, so do not stop for a long drink after collecting one. Clear toward the next target with controlled area damage and keep the healer protected. Both braziers open the exit.
  6. Magmus, Iron Hall: position the tank and party between the fire-statue lanes rather than in front of an active statue. Keep ranged out of his close-range attacks and avoid standing in the repeated flames.
  7. Emperor Dagran Thaurissan and Princess Moira: clear the throne room before pulling. Kill the Emperor while keeping Moira alive for either rescue chain. Interrupt her heals and avoid cleave or damage-over-time effects on her. Save healing and tank cooldowns for the Emperor's dangerous burst. After he dies, stop damage and speak to Moira when she becomes friendly to finish the quest stage.

Loot worth staying for

Inherited targets for a future Forever run; verify the current boss and item before farming:

  • Ring of Law: the random opponent determines the pool. Gorosh the Dervish is the target for Savage Gladiator Chain; the chest piece is not guaranteed from every arena boss.
  • Lord Incendius: elemental-resistance bracers with varying suffixes; inspect the actual roll.
  • Golem Lord Argelmach: Second Wind, Omnicast Boots and Luminary Kilt.
  • General Angerforge: Warstrife Leggings and Lord General's Sword.
  • The Seven's chest: dungeon gear including The Hammer of Grace.
  • Emperor: Ironfoe and melee/caster gear. Hand of Justice is on the Emperor in late Classic/Era tables; early Classic itemisation placed it on Angerforge. Check the current Forever table before choosing an Angerforge-only farm.
  • Taverns, the Vault and optional bosses have their own pools; add those branches for a named target rather than assuming an Emperor run clears them all.

Tips

  • Clear Windsor's entire escort route, including side rooms he enters, before starting Jail Break! Have every eligible player ready to accept and follow him.
  • Keep the prison key and Shadowforge Key distinct. They open different objects, and neither is the Molten Core attunement.
  • Carry enough food, water and bag space for a long city run. Save consumables and mana for the Lyceum and throne room rather than ending the run at the tavern.
  • Check each quest's turn-in and follow-up between visits. BRD's major chains deliberately require travel outside the instance, and a first clear cannot bypass those stages.
